Hi,

I just researched the ATI Radeon 9800 Graphics card.

The one I'm looking at is the base, or no frills model.

Radeon 9800SE 128MB DDR 325Mhz Core/ 500Mhz Memory Speed, w/Dual TV-Out 2xCRT

I Realise the memory speed and core clock are down on the pro models, but this card is going for.......... wait for it.......

$144   Shocked

So, Why would anyone bother with anything else, I mean the performance of the 9800 series is supposed to be the greatest in gaming cards......

Other cards are way more expensive by comparison if you consider "bang for buck" value.

Anyone know if there is anything wrong with this particular type of Video Card?

...Mainboard: Asus P5K-Premium, CPU=Intel E6850 @ x8x450fsb 3.6ghz, RAM: 4gb PC8500 Team Dark, Video: NV8800GT, HDD: 2x1Tb Samsung F3 RAID-0 + 1Tb F3, PSU: Antec 550 Basiq, OS: Win7x64, Display: 24" WS LCD

congo,

Do some research on the various ATI issues with FS2004 before you jump in.  Lots of threads here to look at.  Even though the ATI cards are "top rated" for gaming in general....... some have problems with that particular combination.

best,

PS:  I have this tendency to believe that old "you get what you pay for" bit,....... and the "if it seems too good to be true....it is" thought  Wink.  My guess is that the plain vanilla version you mention is likely NOT anywhere near the equivalent of the $450-ish 9800.

It is an se it has half the band width of the nromal model.  I recommend getting a 9600pro/xt or a 9800np

The reason I've got an Nvidia card despite their overall slightly lower performance.

Performance is nothing without control.  Wink
