Okay, I can't post this in the Cafe (FS speak not allowed) and this forum says "This is where you post non-FS stuff . . ." but ANYWAY:
How do ya'll say the names of the files you work with in FS when you say the names to yourselves?
For example: what do you call a *.bmp? Is it "bee em pee" or "bitmap", or something else? What about a *.cfg file? "see eff gee" or "config" or what? I have been saying these things to myself a certain way for awhile now, and I just realized that its probably not the way anyone else says it. Am I wrong? ???

I use the name, not the three letter designator. (bitmap, config, etc) for most of them.
There are exceptions though. JPG is "jpeg" to me, and "png" isn't "Portable Network Graphic" but "ping".
Great edit, Bob.&&&&&&Google it. &&&&

Verrry interesting Ender. I imagine we all have our own methods. I tend to think of the file extension as a word. (My one remaining marble is severely overworked these days & I forget the correct description of this. It will most likely hit me in the middle of the night. ??? )
For example, to me :
BMP is bermp or bitmap
CFG is config
JPEG is jaypeg
GIF is, well, giff
I think you will get the idea. I know I'm a silly old fool but I'm self-taught & this is the way I've always done it.

LMFAO!!! I think my car died making that exact noise!!!
Notice: I am not making fun, its just a damn funny word!!
How about this one: what do you say for "*.psp"? I usually sound like I'm on a CB. "Okay, transferring manitoba dot PSSSP!" (Easier to say than pee ess pee)

i never really say those words...i just read them and in my mind i mumble something, but god knows what it is.
quite remarkable is the fact that lots of my friends didn't know how to pronounce "gauge(s)", neither did i. but when i was at the Paris airshow, the commentator was talking about the hot temperatures (more than 30°C that day) and the effects of it on the displays...and suddenly he used the word "oil gauge..." from that moment i finally know how to say that strange word called "gauge"

Hehehehe. It's rather difficult to spell. Come to think of it, it's more like boomp. Heck I don't know - I'm thinking it, not saying it aloud. Hmmm, maybe I am without realising it.

Well, there's some file extensions like PSP I rarely use. I suppose it would be pee-ess-pee or pssp. LOL
On thinking about it, DXTBmp is dee-ex-tee-boomp to me. Figure that one out.

Odd, that is the noise I make after drinking a couple of beers and dancing wildly.....
As for the name thing, I just use the correct name of the file type like Hagar.
As for using things like LOL, no I don't, but I do sometimes use smilies on the whiteboard in lessons

I often put smilies on things like birthday cards. That's about the only time I use a pen these days.

Is this more of that PC twaddle or shouldn't I ask? In my day we used white chalk on a blackboard. I make no apology for using the word black.

I think the best way to do it is to treat them just as words. If the syllable has a vowel, then pronounce it. .exe: "ehx-uh". If no vowel, treat it as a abbreviation. .w3d: "dub-ya-three-dee" .tmp is the only exception for me, as I just say temp or try to pronouce tmp.
