This doesn't exactly apply to my FS.  The framerates and graphics in my sim are ample, its just when I use Gmax that I run into problems.

I run two systems, one with Win98 and the other with WinXP Home Ed.  I used to run Gmax on the Win98 system, but it loaded slowly and so I moved Gmax over to the other system, now it runs faster, but the background images are terrible quality.  They used to be incredible on Win98, and now it seems WinXP is having trouble with them.

I thought the problem would be with the graphics card or the color and picture settings, but the XP settings are all higher:

Win98
Matrox MGA Millenium (default graphics card)
1024x768
True Color (24 bit)

WinXP
64Mb DDR NVIDIA GeForce 3
1024x768
Highest Color (32 bit)

Any suggestions?  More info needed?  Anything helps!  I'm a newbie at this graphics card stuff, so please keep it simple! Roll Eyes

I'm no expert either & have no knowledge of WinXP. On Win98Hagar I always run my desktop resolution at High Color (16 bit). Some applications (like FSDS2) won't even run in a higher resolution so this might well be causing your problem. The desktop resolution shouldn't affect the display settings for the sims which run in Direct3D.

In Gmax under the customize menu select preference settings.

Click on viewports

Down in the lower right you should see a group of settings labeled: Display drivers

You have 3 choices to play with. I usually have mine set on Heidi which is the software driver.

Click on the button that says "Configure Driver." You'll see a box that says "Download texture size" Click on 512 to select it. You can also leave the check on the box labeled, "Match bitmap size as closely as possible."

Nvidia just put out a new version of their drivers for the Geforce cards August 13.

Some things to check out.

Oh, CRAP!!!  I just did what you told me, only instead of the regular Heidi driver I accidentally selected "Choose driver" or something like that on the spots next to it!  Now I get this message every time I try to start up Gmax:

Do you still have a Gmax shortcut icon on your desktop?

If you do-right click on it.

Select properties.

You'll see a box that says target... add a -H at the end of the text, leaving a space between the last letter and the -

Close the window
Click on the icon and Gmax should start, giving you the option to pick the right driver.
