Bet that got yah wondering.

well the reason for that was my beloved Sea Vixen.

Having read this http://www.thunder-and-lightnings.co.uk/seavixen/history.html ; ,Which I suggest you read before participating in this poll, I was going mad with anger at the Labour government. I seem to find more and more reasons to hate em every day.

I await you answers. Fnar Shocked

I don't really have an opinion. Sorry.
The first thing that springs to mind when I think of the Sea Vixen is the terrible accident at the Farnborough Air Show with its predecessor the DH 110. This was later found to be due to incompetence. DH seemed to suffer from more than their fair share of that.  Roll Eyes

I think it would have been retired whichever government was in power. This & the cancellation of projects like the TSR.2 were first proposed by Duncan Sandys (Tory Defence Minister) in his controversial 1957 Defence White Paper.

Quote:
One of the greatest single disasters in the history of Britain's post-war industry and technology was brought about by a Conservative defence minister, Duncan Sandys, in 1957. This has generally been referred to since as the 1957 White Paper. The thinking behind this White paper was that all manned aircraft would have been replaced by guided missiles by no later than the 1970s, and thus that all the promising projects in development could be cancelled - as most were.

Well as much as I'd love to see them having lived on, what use would they have been without any carriers?
Still one of the most atractive aircraft to have flown.
Does anyone know why the RAF chose the Javelin over the DH-110? I've read articles writen by seavixen pilots who used to "Fight" javelins in mock combat and the Javelin was hopeless Roll Eyes

The official reason was that Farnborough accident.

It seem not many of you guys share my passion for the Vixen

The thing that annoys me is the potential of a supersonic vixen would have pretty damn good.

It's better that the smoke-rocket F-4's they got after that, especially in looks.

Russian planes: IL-76 (all standard length ones),  Tu-154 and Il-62, Tu-134 and An-24RV&&&&AI flightplans and repaints can be found here

Well the downsizing of the Navy spelled death for such a lovely aircraft. If we had kept our bug carriers then the Vixen had at the very least another 10 years in her with potential for such great upgrades.

The problem is labour seems to hate the airforce and everything to do with aircraft. If the torys were still in power at the time we may have been seeing super vixens and TSR.2's flying around.

Yes the Vixen is far far far ahead in looks to the phantom. maybe with upgrades it could have matched the speed of it. It already was much better in manauverability to begin with.

how I wish for a power change.
