Sorry, but it takes nothing but a lot of practice to land right.

All these people want to just turn their PC on and let the computer do the rest.  Is that really fun?

First, we got VA's, but now....now I think we're seeing the first ever virtual PASSENGERS.  lol Wink

Well I can tell you if I knew I was the pilot I wouldn't be buying tickets and less so if I thought MY computer was doing the flying. Grin

What may not be fun for some is fun for others.  When you pay for the game and hardware, do what amuses you.  If I don't line up properly on a runway, rather than go around, I slew into position.  My fun.

Tropicana,

If you take the time to learn how to fly...... do the included lessons..... THEN move up to more complicated aircraft........... you'll find that lining up and landing is not that tough.  A Cessna 172 is a pretty "fail safe" aircraft....and at takeoff and landing is often moving slower than the family car on a highway.  And when you start to get a handle on the autopilot functions and the ILS part of things...... it CAN just about land itself.

If you are talking about a 747 when you haven't spent some real time in the Cessna......... that may be where the frustration lies.

I feel that how a person is using the sim is completely up to the user....... which just seems to make sense to me.  After all, it is really just mainly for fun.....unless you are using it as an adjunct to real world flight training.  Or doing it "right" is important if you are in multiplayer mode and are flying with others that expect something more like the real world to happen.

Some people might just enjoy the opportunity to look at the scenery from a pretty unique view point.  Flying the plane holds no facination for them...... but going new places ....even if they are "virtual places"...... does.

But I find that for ME the challenge of learning to fly the aircraft reasonably well makes the simulation lots of fun.  I have been using real world weather lately and THAT makes things loads more fun..... now that I have 1/10 of a clue as to how to fly a plane.  And learning about the real world practices of GA and commercial avaition is interesting...... and completely outside my normal "field".

I do tend to follow the ATC direction most of the time........ if I get a "go around"........... I go around.  And in certain locations where I have the info I try to follow the airport procedures on the approach plate........ on go around, climb to X altitude.......procedure turn to such and such heading, go to such and such beacon, and so on.

I don't say that I do it WELL......... just that I attempt to do it  Wink.

There was another thread in the last few days that DID say there was an autoland utility.  Look around a bit at the topics.

best,

.......................john

Look at it this way...

Why bother investing, (yes investing), in the software, if you're not going to "play it"?

Yeah!! I remember many years ago being handed off by ATC(I wasn't at the controls)and told  not to report at the next position only to be severely reprimanded by the next controller for NOT reporting. ATC is GOD!

NOT IN FS!! Now it's "You want me to do what? How unfortunate for you!"

"You are not cleared to land" Yeah, yeah, yeah! Grin

The attraction of FS to me is the fact you can make it into almost anything you want & do exactly as you like. If Tropicana wants the planes to land themselves I see no reason why he shouldn't do so - providing he's happy & it's possible. I wouldn't know about that as I never wished to do it.

Personally, I don't see the fun in flying on auto-pilot or expecting the aircraft to land itself. I get my kicks buzzing around in VFR & flying by the seat of my pants with no nav-aids & other modern gadgets. This wouldn't suit everybody but that's how I like it. It takes me back to the days when I learned to fly. I can relive those wonderful memories whenever I wish.  Wink

I think we should take fly like a chalenge (in real as in simulation) I do some glider and some aircraft I found that in aircraft the challenge is to do land an take off better than the precedent. so you had to try hard to lan on the runway. it take a long time yes and it will be hard because you don't fell what the aircraft is doing as in reality. but when you will success you will be very happy.

see the fly like that make it fun
as in gliders the challenge is to stay longer in the air, in aircraft the challenge is to do the perfect flight.
try try and try harde each time that the deal look now I  can land helicopter where I want but thats because I try a lot of time.

If dumb could fly, sky will be green (french air force proverbs)
