A while ago I tried downloading this download accelerator for Kazaa (produced by the Kazaa company itself of course). I didn't like it so I took it off but it put all these browser tool bars programs and a bunch of other useless junk programs onto my computer. The problem is I can't delete them. When I try to remove them with the Wizard, nothing happens and when I try to delete them manually, it tells me access is denied. HOW COULD I BE DENIED ACCESS TO STUFF ON MY OWN COMPUTER!!  Angry

These things also run in the background and eat up ram, so I have to turn them off manually. My question is, how do I get rid of these things without doing a complete erase of my hard drive?

try reinstalling it and fully uninstaling it again that may work usually acess being denied is because a file needed to authorize its deletion has been deleted

If you can't remove them from the add/remove program area of the control panel, you can always click on My Computer and search for the files on your hard drive, once you locate the programs, right click and choose delete, for me this has never failed to work on files and programs that otherwise refuse to go away.

Get Spybot or AdAware (I use both) to get rid of the spyware.  This will also make Kazaa nonfunctional.

Remove Kazaa manually the best you can.

Get Kazaa Lite.  It has no spyware.

In the future use a real uninstaller like Total Uninstall.

Thanks. Are Spybot and AdAware freeware or do I have to buy them?
BTW, don't uninstall Kazaa. They are starting to charge new users for the service.

Spybot and AdAware are both freeware.  Spybot is better - faster and updated more often.  Just search Google.

Total Uninstall is also free.  It's the best uninstaller I've ever used, and I've used it for several years.  I don't even use Control Panel or the built in uninstallers any more.

If you're interested in Kazaa Lite, here's a link http://www.kazaalite.nl/en/. ; I have the 2/25/2003 build - it looks like this one is a little newer.  Mine has the download accelerator, superuser, infinite "search more".

I can't see how Kazaa (the company) can charge for the service since they don't provide any service.  It provides a program.  Kazaa (the program) does nothing more than give you access to the Gnutella network - the same as Bearshare, Morpheus and dozens more.  Kazaa (the company) can distribute this program free (like free TV) because advertisers pay to have their spyware inserted into the program.

Kazaa Lite is Kazaa with the spyware removed, and much more functional.

Thanks.
Anyway I saw a list of prices on their web site when I went looking to download Kazaa Lite.
