Boeing is currently developing a new aircraft which is supposed to be released in 2008. They have made a poll on their new site asking what would be the best name, the Stratoclimber, eLiner, Dreamliner, and Globalcruiser. Go to
www.newairplane.com
to cast your vote and see which is winning. Heres a pic of the plane:
Added a poll here too.....

interesting poll. i voted for "e-Liner". seems to be the most suitable name for such a modern aircraft.

I would guess Boeing will use the 787 number configuration alongside the name since it goes after the latest 777 and the plane is to be released in 2008. It looks like a pretty cool plane, sleek and efficient.

I always expected the next Boeing airliner would be a double-deck full length plane (like the A380 will be)-but I guess I was wrong. I don't know the specs, but it only looks slightly larger than the 777.

I have to agree with Woody. It's become traditional to call them by their numbers so why change it? The last Boeing commercial airliner I can remember having an official name was the B-377 Stratocruiser.

I have to agree with all of you on that. Frankly, i like short name configurations cause its easy to write and remember
. But the way it looks, im thinkin Boeing might not put a 787 designation on it and just put a name for it to relive the old times.. (like Ford bringing back the thunderbird..
)

Boeing was supposed to be workin on something like that to counter the A380 'threat'. Their countermeasure; an
expanded
version of the 747 called the 747 Stretch. Its supposed to be a bit longer than the A380 in length but it will not be a double decker.
*Oh and i added another option for the poll

OK, I changed my vote to the 787 designation. I don't see why we should change that tradition.

I think its neat how a colour scheme can catch the eye and make one think such farout imaginary names.......take away the sweeping lines of the colour break and all you have is a lightly contoured 757-767 type of general population delivery truck.....once again !
Ah, the wonders of Graphics and Marketing.......
