I'm repainting PAI's ERJ145 in a fictional airline livery but when I go to select it in FS2k2 to get a closer look my other ERJ145 of the same airline shows up as the aircraft to fly. I've never had this happen before. Any suggestions? ???

SmileyAlong with changing the textures to your new one, you must also modify your aircraft.cfg file to show the new plane or livery. This is an example from the Fs2002 737 to show you how to do it:
   [fltsim.0]
title=Boeing 737-400
sim=Boeing737-400
model=
panel=
sound=
texture=
kb_checklists=Boeing737-400_check
kb_reference=Boeing737-400_ref
atc_id=N700MS
atc_airline=American Pacific
atc_flight_number=1123
ui_manufacturer=Boeing
ui_type=737-400
ui_variation=American Pacific Airways
description=One should hardly be surprised that the world's most prolific manufacturer of commercial aircraft is also the producer of the world's most popular jetliner. The 737 became the best-selling commercial jetliner worldwide when orders for it hit 1,831 in June 1987 (surpassing Boeing's own 727 as the previous champ). However, it wasn't always that way\s in the first few years of production, there were so few orders that Boeing considered canceling the program. They didn't, and the airplane has more than proven itself in over three decades of service.

With this setup you should see the aircraft in the Fs2002's window and when you expand it your new livery should be listed.
Hope this helps.

Appreciate you lengthy response John. I'm very familiar with aircraft.cfg files and how to work with them. The thing is the aircraft with my newly painted livery shows up in the select screen under the make,model & variation like it should but when I select it to fly in FS2002 my other ERJ-145 shows up as the selected aircraft. Sorry if I wasn't that clear earlier. I just like to get a closer view of the AI aircraft I'm repainting before she goes into a flightplan.  Hey, it's only a AI aircraft anyways, after I'm done an alter the .air file it won't show up in the select screen at all. Thanks again John

Things to make sure of:

Your [flightsim.x] has a new number for x different to the previous ones.

Your new texture folder has some kind of extension after it. e.g texture.2

Your entry in your aircraft.cfg refers to the correct texture folder. e.g. using the above example:

texture=2

If all those apply, there's a chance the textures you've installed either aren't for that specific aircraft model (I don't mean the type of plane here, I mean the specific download  - they often map textures differently with different sized models so one BAE texture for download "a" won't work on donwload "b" for the same plane), or, the textures themselves are incomplete or corrupt.

Did you install the paint in as a new texture or another aircraft? If it is another aircraft, but shares the same title in the aircraft CFG it will go to the default and then you will have to select it in game.
For instance, say you install another bell206 as a new aircraft and use the same aircraft CFG as the bell and add the new entries to it except for the original title, it will show up in the menu fine, but the only way to select it is during flight.

I figured it out, both my aircraft had the exact same name in the title in the aircraft.cfg. I usually put "AI" at the end of all my AI aircraft. What a brain-fart. Appreciate all your responses though, Thanks again.........
