To fly or not to fly,....
that's a stupid question

I live next to Holloman AFB and White Sands Missle Range, these are very restricted air space area.

The question is: How do I get the ATC to head me away from restricted air space, or is the program able to do that?

Out of curiosity on IFR I flew from Phoenix AZ to White Sands Regional, ATC took me right over the top of this area without warnings or reprisal from the USAF.

Just curious to know if FS2002 Pro recognizes restricted Airspace.  Any body know an answer to this one?

In advance, Thanks

To the best of my knowledge, FS2002 ATC completely ignores it.

I appreciate the reply.  I thought as much but I wanted to know before I removed the program and re-installed.

May all your landings be safe

Sadly it is not, but in a way it might be good. I think it is very tough now to land an airplane in JFK, or La Guardia after the attacks. If i am right imagine trying to land in La Guardia (fairly close to Manhattan) with 100 percent traffic. Would be interesting though. Some areas like no mans land island off Massachussets has some kinf of altitude restrictions because it is a wild animal preserve area i think.

Now that i think about, it should be added to add one more thing and make it "As Real As It Get's"

No restricted airspace in FS2002. Not even in Pro edition. I found it out my first cross country flight from Grand Canyon to my home airport. We live near a training base that's been restricted airspace since during WWII and I flew right over it in the sim. Doing so in real life wouldn't be healthy. Those Warthogs are pretty nasty customers when your in a Cessna.  Shocked

I first noticed something as not quite right when I took off from Ronald Regan and turned putting me over the White House.

I was sure it was a config error on my part so I removed FS2K2 and reloaded it.  So I took the KPHX to White Sands Regional run and IFR and ATC vectored me over the top of Holloman.  Was glad to NOT see fighters on my wings.  Don't know how I would have reacted to that !!

Deffinatly no restricted airspace in FS2002.  Because there is no reason for it.  It is a total utopia of peace and harmony.

Besides, if there where restricted airspace, FS2002 would crash to a blue screen when you fly over groom lake.....

I agree with fisharno-not only total tranquility, but when its grey, snowing, cold & miserable out,you could change it to warm, bright & sunny with a few keystrokes! And lets not forget the flying cars they told us we`d have by1980-no more hideos accidents and 40 mile long parking lots!  Wink

It seems the programmers missed having some fun on us with that one. Just imagine how amazed you'd be if in the flight sim, you flew too close to restricted airspace and a couple F-16s pulled up alongside and escorted you out.  Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked Shocked

Oh yeah!
And with voice contact, too:

"Unidentified aircraft, this is Air Force F-16, 204 on your port side...."

"You have entered Restricted Airspace...."

"You will turn to heading 314 and follow me out of this airspace or I will be forced to retire you and your aircraft pre-maturely......"

I had no problem checking out the White House from about 2000 ft - George wasn't home at the time . . . . I suppose those who would want to engage the F16's should get Combat FS - Me ? I'm just enjoying the view ..

I wish one of you Terrans would come up with a way to restrict airspasce because some of you with your primitive flight vehicles ,and prying eyes get in our way at what you call"Area 51"You have no idea what were doing there, and you dont want to. Leave us alone and we`ll allow your neolithithic, type 1 civilization to continue-FOR NOW! By the way,it IS a cookbook-and its nearly DINERTIME! HAHAHAHA...     Yours truly,Fleet Subcomander, Imagoon 8)
