I have just recently upgraded my video card from an MSI Geforce 3 Ti200 with 128 Mb of DDR to a Sapphire Radeon 9700 non-pro with 128 Mb of DDR and a driver version 3.2

I was expecting a huge increase in my FPS and much better ability to handle complex terrains such as cities and the like.

Much to my chagrin the FPS seems to have gotten worse.

I run my machine at 1024x768 with all detail on full and my target fps set to 30.

Strange as it may seem I actually get slightly better results but still not good enough when I run at 1600x1200 and unlimited target fps the fps still hovers at about 17 in cockpit view.

The rest of my machine is an Athlon 1900+ with 768Mb of DDR and a SB Live Value for a sound card.

Can anyone suggest the magical setting or solution that will provide me with the stellar frame rate that I expect and deserve Smiley

Sorry to burst your bubble, but that isn't much of an upgrade. If anything, you will get a better graphic quality more than anything else.
For more performance, I would suggest upgrading your CPU and go with a MOBO that supports the new dual channel DDR. If running XP OS the sound blaster series eats lots of memory which is why I just orderd the nForce2 board. Also try using different drivers, there was a post at another FS site about rthe 29.XX series drivers and how well they worked, turned out I was using them, which would explain some of the good performance I get on an Athlon 1.4 with 1 gig DDR and the G4 4600 (15-20 steady default with new tree textures and the Holger mesh of Alaska)

For settings to help, try reducing the visability and turning off the aircraft shadows, helps (even thought I leave mine on! LOL)

Bottom line, you can tweak till the cows come home and not get the performance you want. I have seen so many posts from guys with the new P4 3+gig hyper systems that still get crappy FPS.

regards, Michael
