He was banned for being an old school, 1950's racist. Pushed the rules to the limit for years and in the end his self admitted bigotry showed him the way to the door.
Mods, including Shane, and others on the forums, were calling for his banning for years.
While he was here he put a LOT of people off staying here. Someone even made a video about him ....

Having just watched that video, I don't see what the guy was complaining about. Foz made a comment I myself kind of agree with, as do many other people in the world

You don't want to go by that video to understand why Fozzer was banned... it was, in fact, an unusually diplomatic moment for him.
I don't quite get that video rant, myself... it reminds me of the other one I've seen...
anyway, Fozzer was banned for responding to the few simple, sensible rules here regarding hot-button topics as if they were unreasonable and oppressive: by thumbing his nose at Pete over and over, despite calm and reasoned arguments and gentle reminders. It escalated, with inevitable results.
Pete and all the mods know why F. was popular here- he was funny and helpful, gregarious and very active in all forums for a very long time, and most importantly, he was passionate about sim flight. I think I speak for all the mods, and many users, when I say that sometimes he is missed. Nobody else had a Fozzer, and he often added a certain charm to the forums here.
But there are rules here, rules designed to keep SimV from turning into yet another wall for trolls to pee on, and Foz refused to respect that.
He's entitled, just as he's entitled to his opinions about people or countries or flightsim add-ons. But Pete is entitled to ban any user who threatens to undermine all that he's built here, whether it be Fozzer or any of the others who've "forgotten where they are", created anger and discord over
stuff that has nothing to do with the purpose of the site
, then refused to apologize or relent. It can't be tolerated, because it drives people away. and the bottom line is that it's Pete's site, and he doesn't want that "tone" here. I'm still here because I agree with that.
If anyone can't handle that, they can go off to some "rogue" flight sim site, where you can say what you want about anything or anyone.
...until that site, too, is forced to impose some set of rules of decorum and order... t
hen
where will you go?

Fozzer had many positives going for him. When he was "good"... it was a pleaure to have him around. It is for that reason that he even lasted as long as he did here.
Because the negatives he exhibited were very negative to the goals of the site, and most importantly, he refused to comply with requests to control those aspects.
It is actually very simple and easy to understand.

@SteveM: No offence taken. Since you clearly don't know what you are talking about.
@Beaky: Yes, you can call it a 'rogue' website. Doesn't mean there are no rules. Yes, there is a more relaxed freedom of speech overthere. Yes, you are encouraged to discuss anything. But, within limits. Go too far and you are also banned. Homebbrewer is the living example of that. He was the first to be banned and hopefully the last.

I think perhaps this puts the situation in more perspective for me as clearly Fozzer had a "Dark Side" which I never saw. My experiences with him were always good and I for one will miss his sence of humour and wish him well wherever he's hanging out.

No Problem! We all have our bad days from time to time
I think it might be time to close this one up as it is clearly a useless discussion. The Fozzer situation is known now and since neither "side" is going to have a change of heart/mind it is of no use to even discuss the issue... It will at best just lead to a flame war which would be unfortunate for everybody. Pete has every right to enforce his vision on Simv since it is his creation and he has spent many hours and/or dollars to build Simv to where it is now.
And just as it is his right to enforce the rules it is the right of each and every individual whether to take part in it or to go somewhere else... Thankfully the Interwebs is large enough to facilitate many possible points of "virtual"meetings.
Well these are my last two pennies in this particular thread....

FSNerd.
And that is the entire foundation of your site... "A more relaxed freedom of speech..."? Ok that is fine when you have 36 members who all "know" each other somewhat "personally". If Simviation was made up of 36 members who knew each other, I am sure we would have a much more relaxed atmosphere here also.
But when you have over
36,000 members from around the world who are all different ages
...
you need to be a bit more "professional" with your business plan.
It seems the thread in question has been removed from the site. I found it interesting that before it was removed that {insert name here} said that "anybody who breaks the rules here will be dealt with!". Only to see Doug "Grumpy's" post saying...
"
Isn't that the same thing that pete tried to enforce at Simviation? Now maybe you understand why he did what he did"
... or something along those lines.
I think then and there it was obvious that we all have rules that we try to enforce to keep our site(s) running smooth and keeping it enjoyable for all that visit. Maybe {insert name here} realized that is all we have been trying to do all along here at SimV. {Insert name here} was called out on it and that is why the thread was removed, IMHO.
Whatever has happened has happened, nobody is losing sleep over it in the end, it is only another forum amongst hundreds of thousands on the Internet. The problem we have are the things that are being done behind the scenes.
Let's say for example... a former member intentionally contacting authors who upload here to see if they authorised their uploads to Simviation....?
That is simply unacceptable and there is no reason for it other than to cause problems.
Hopefully this is the last of it it and we can all move on... John has created a site where you can speak about almost anything you want. As a matter of fact that is how SimV started out if I remember correctly,... there was a real "relaxed freedom of speech" back then, sound familiar? But as the site grew and the fan base increased, we had to adjust to accommodate the people who enjoyed the hobby.
It is hard to "manage" the feelings and opinions of so many on a single forum. The actions that we take are always discussed as a group usually over a month's time before any actions are taken. Usually if there is a problem the person will be contacted and told that there is an issue. To think that we enjoy banning anybody from here is complete ridiculous. Fozzer's name was brought up by a few over a year ago and was discussed numerous times among the Mods. The reason it took so long is because we all found Fozz amusing most of the time. But when the owner of the site receives personal messages once a month from different users, something had to be done. The reason I address this is because it was this reason that caused the scales to tip and those of you to jump ship. Imagine if you had over a dozen Fozzers a month posting things that people found offensive. Do you sit by and watch what you have created wither away, or do you defend what you have built? I am sure most of you know the answer to that with your new site. It only takes one member to bring that place down and I am sure you wouldn't want that to happen just as we here at SimV did not want it to happen.
Thanks again and I have said my peace...
Dave...
