Tiger has been a non-factor all year and getting worse every week.  He won't place better than 10th.

Vijay Singh and Ernie Els may have reached the end of their best competitive years.  (Ernie won twice in Florida but has struggled since March.)  Two more out of the top 10.

Phil never plays well at the Open but should make it within the top 10.

That leaves hot this year:

Justin Rose
Steve Stricker
Jim Furyk

Maybe time for a youngster to break through:

Camillo Villegas
Rory McIlroy
Rickie Fowler

Tigers choked in the worthless tournaments, in the Masters and U.S. Open he's posted top 10 finishes. I dont think Ernie will be close to the leaderboard or Vijay, I would have liked to seen Ernie win the U.S. Open but he seemed to choke.

BTW- Tiger will be playing with Rose and Villegas...which will be 1:09AM my time. Cheesy

http://www.opengolf.com/TeeTimes.aspx?ptype=tt&day=1

Are we still considering Camilo Villegas a youngster? I dont think he will even make the cut line to be honest, neither with Fowler. I dont think he can handle the pressure of a Major this young. I think you left out one of the biggest youngsters to make a run for it. Ryo Ishikawa...played good at the US Open and he's had a great year and was able to handle the pressure.

Justin Rose is doing GREAT right now, I think he'll do good in the Open, as for Furyk...dont think he will.

Ill have my fantasy team posted tomorrow. Wink

Any idea what the real weekend tee times are?

1st and 2nd rounds last time is 4:21pm BST/11:21am EDT and ESPN cut live coverage at 8pm BST/3pm EDT.  The leaderboard looked like players would finish as late as 9pm BST (4.5 hour round).

Weekend television on ABC ends at 11pm BST/6pm EDT.  Are the leaders really going to tee off at 6:00 - 6:30pm local time on the weekend?

Edit:  TV Guide show the ESPN coverage is live (ends at 2:30 EDT Saturday/1:30 EDT Sunday) but no indication that ABC coverage is live.  No indication that it's taped either but I think that's a safe inference.

Bad weather on the Scotland North Sea coast?  Who would have guessed.

There are going to be some big shakeups before round 2 is over.

Like McIlroy's 80.

I think the cut will be +2...although Tom Watsons walk up to 18 was great. I still think Tigers in contention...that leader whoever that is will have to handle lots of pressure that I dont think he can which is why me and lots of other people are saying he wont be the winner or even leading tommrow they think.

Tigers drive on 18 was GREAT, to bad he missed the eagle putt.  Undecided

Personally, I'd like to see John Daly get his temper under control and come back to win. John has his faults, but I've always liked him.

The caption under Watson fits him to a tee. If there ever was a 'gentleman of golf', he's it.

Now I have an urge to put my golf sim disc back in the tray.  Angry Grin

Yeah thats the picture...and it was very nice of Tiger's group to let them tee off when they got up to the green before play got suspended so they could finish and Tom wouldnt have to tee off in the morning for 1 hole.

Looks as if Tiger will not be winning. Casey and Oosthuizen pretty much will be battling tommrow as Oosthuizen has a 4 stroke lead at -15 and Casey at -11. Im not sure if Oosthuizen will be able to handle the pressure but we'll see tommorow. Id rather have Casey win but what a run this no name has given and he defiantly put his name out there.  Wink

And check out this shot by Miguel Jimenez...very creative and a great shot too  Grin

Of course that 67 was a gift, playing early on Friday.

Tiger Woods coy about Ryder Cup

Quote:
AKRON, Ohio -- Despite several attempts to get him to clarify his position Wednesday, Tiger Woods did not say directly that he will play in the Ryder Cup.

With two events left in the process that determines the eight automatic qualifiers for the United States team, Woods finds himself in the unusual position of ninth, meaning he would need captain Corey Pavin to make him an at-large selection if the picks were made today.

That seems a foregone conclusion, given Woods' No. 1 status in the game and despite his recent struggles on the course ...

That Woods is as high as he is in the Ryder Cup standings is impressive, given his lack of golf this year.

The Bridgestone will be just his eighth tournament, and he's missed one cut and withdrew from another. Woods is ninth in the standings on the strength of three top-10s at the major championships last year (the only 2009 tournaments that counted) and two more top-fives this year, at the Masters and the U.S. Open, where points are worth double.

After the PGA Championship, Pavin will have three weeks before announcing his four captain's picks.

European captain Colin Montgomerie's team will be completed Aug. 29 at the Johnnie Walker Championship in Scotland. He will make his three captain's selections that day.

Tiger never plays well in Ryder Cup/Presidents Cup.  If he doesn't get an automatic bid I think Pavin would be justified in picking Zach Johnson, Luke Donald or Bubba Watson.

Think about Tiger Woods not in the Ryder Cup? Not only would it be stupid but sales would probably be down and most likely viewers will be down ALOT...considering PGA Tour viewers on sunday dropped 50% without Tiger. He shouldnt worry...he's Tiger Woods, even when he plays bad he's in the Top 15. People give him way more crap then he deserves, serouisly. Just because he isnt first place doesnt mean he isnt playing good or not.

It's only Thursday but he's not tearing up Firestone.  At this pace I doubt he'll get the automatic bid.

If he wasn't Tiger would you pick a guy who's Ryder Cup record is 7-11-2, hasn't won all year, is having the worst year of his life and keeps playing worse every week?

The safe bet is to go with the ratings maker and keep the PGA happy.  If Pavin picks Tiger and we lose, well, that's the breaks.  If he doesn't pick Tiger and we lose the PGA won't be inviting Mr. Pavin back in the near future.

Exactly. If we dont see Tiger, we lose fans, they lose ratings on TV and people will lose interest in the Ryder Cup this year.

It just doesnt make sense to not put Tiger Woods on your team. Its like putting the St. Louis Rams vs. Detriot Lions on national TV over the New Orlean Saints vs. Indianpolis Colts. Which one will get more viewers... Wink

And to be honest, ill probably be one of those people who losses a bit of interest in the Ryder Cup without Tiger. Now I am a big golf fan and love the sport so yes I still will be watching it anyways but I wont be as into it if Tiger wasnt playing.

And speaking of Tiger he finished +4 today with 6 bogeys and 2 birdies.  Undecided

People want to watch Tiger Woods like they want to watch John Daly, i.e., a train wreck.

I'd rather see an American team win the cup.

That's because you have to be a golf fan to not care so much about Tiger. I was getting all excited to be seeing some of the great players at the U.S. Open in person that close to me, like Paul Casey, Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood, Steve Stricker, and the list goes on. I mean it was great to see one of my biggest idols Tiger in person but to see all the other people just follow him the whole entire round and then Phil, just makes you think...why are you here? Watch him on TV, you'll get a better view.

Finishing 78th of 80 at Firestone, Tiger's year is over.

He will finish no better than the top half in the PGA Championship.

He will not make the Ryder Cup.

He will spare Corey Pavin the decision and privately ask to be taken out of consideration.  Pavin will then announce that he has discussed it with Tiger and that they agree this is in the best interest of the team.

Tiger is not eligible to play Kapalua in 2011 so you may not see him again until Pebble Beach in February.

I dont see how you can say that. He's done better than half the PGA Tour, just because he doesnt have 4 wins or 6 wins and 1 major like he may have last year doesnt mean anythings over. Some great great golfers finish last, Phil misses cuts, some of the young guys, some of the PGA leaders do too but it seems to be when Tiger isnt in the top 10 then he's either doing horrible, he's done for the year, he's a fluke, he's got other things on his mind etc. He's played 8 events and only missed 1 cut, and last year he only missed 1 cut also. 4 top 25's out of 8 means 50% of the time he's in the top 25 and 25% he's in the top 10.

Thats a decent season, not Tiger worthy but you guys have to remember...he's HUMAN and to hear people just bag on him and say he's horrible now, he cant golf is just absolutely stupid and insulting. He's a great golfer, he might not be having one of those Tiger years but he's proven to everyone he's human and it seems if he doesnt win or get in the top 10 then its like everyone goes nuts like he's finished last...and when he does finish 2nd to last people start bagging on him even harder and worse! Its stupid. His season isnt over, till the PGA Tour season is over in my mind. He was never in contention or even trying to win the Fed Ex Cup or if he was he would have been playing in a whole bunch of tournaments to get points but he still has one more major left and I think he's favored to win that tournament over anybody and if you've checked the World Ranking status, He's still #1... I dont care if he's been playing horrible this year or if he does next year, or his outside life, or who had a better year in 2010...the #1 golfer in the world is Tiger Woods. Theres no reason you should be saying the #1 golfer's season is over inless he tell's the media he's done for the season.

Just my thoughts of people on Tiger Woods. Give the guy a break just because he isnt in first doesnt mean he sucks. Or just because he has a bad golf round doesnt mean he sucks either. For crying out loud its freakin golf. You have good and you have bad days. Tiger isnt a robot. Roll Eyes

Let me correct myself. Corey Pavin reported yesterday that he didnt tell Jim Gray exactly that he would be putting Tiger on the team and he has other thoughts in mind besides Tiger....then Jim Gray went on to call Pavin a liar..

Tiger fails to make Ryder Cup team on points

Quote:
Some questions were answered but others remained as Tiger Woods finished his fourth round in the 92nd PGA Championship.

Woods is still interested in playing for the United States in the Ryder Cup, but he didn't earn enough points to move from 10th into the top eight in the standings. So he's hoping American Captain Corey Pavin will make him a captain's pick.

"I think I got a chance of maybe helping out in singles," said a joking Woods, who has played in five Ryder Cups and is 3-1-1 in singles but 7-12-1 combined in foursomes and four-balls.

Edit:

You're on the team

Quote:
The eight automatics for Captain Corey Pavin’s squad are as follows:

1. Phil Mickelson
2. Hunter Mahan
3. Bubba Watson
4. Jim Furyk
5. Steve Stricker
6. Dustin Johnson
7. Jeff Overton
8. Matt Kuchar

McIlroy is not convinced that Woods, who failed to qualify for the Ryder Cup for the first time, deserves one of U.S. captain Corey Pavin's four wild-card picks but still expects the No. 1 golfer to be on the American team.

"There are a lot of American players playing better than him at the minute but it's always an advantage to have Tiger Woods in your team," McIlroy told the BBC. "I think he'll [Pavin] pick him. I don't think it would go down too well in the States if he wasn't picked."

Woods struggles Friday at The Barclays

Quote:
One day removed from his best round of the year, Tiger Woods struggled to a two-over 73 Friday and fell five shots off the lead at The Barclays.

Woods, the first-round leader after six-under 65 on Thursday, played poorly on his back nine, the front side at Ridgewood Country Club, and fell to four- under 138 ...

Woods needs a good week this week to continue his PGA Tour season. He's ranked 112th in FedEx Cup points and after this championship, the first playoff event, only the top 100 in the standings make the field next week at the Deutsche Bank Championship ...

Another good run on Saturday would put him close to the final group on Sunday.  Too bad he won't be paired with Vijay, Phil or Jim (Furyk).

Tiger needs a Hail Mary on Sunday to keep his Playoffs alive

Quote:
LEMONT, Ill. -- Will Sunday be the last time we see Tiger Woods playing a PGA TOUR event in the United States this year?

Perhaps. The two-time and defending FedExCup champion has left himself no room for error in terms of advancing to the final stage of this year's PGA TOUR Playoffs for the FedExCup.

Woods will go into Sunday's final round of the BMW Championship needing to complete golf's version of the Hail Mary pass. He will need a miracle. It's either go low or go home.

"Looks like probably 61, 62 might have to be the number," Woods said after shooting a 3-under 68 on Saturday. He was not joking. His tone was deadly serious.

Of course, Woods was talking about the number he needs to possibly win the BMW Championship. He's not thinking about the number needed just to finish in the top five, which would get him a spot inside the top 30 who advance to THE TOUR Championship presented by Coca-Cola.

He isn't giving up hope that he can defend the title that he won by eight strokes here a year ago. Now, at even par for the tournament, he'll go into the final round eight strokes behind the leaders -- and needing to make up six strokes just to get inside the top five on the leaderboard and keep his Playoffs alive.

No one watches the "playoffs" anyway.

Tiger Woods fires 70, eliminated from FedExCup playoffs

He tied for 15th in the BMW Championship, which he won last year, with the leaders still playing on the back nine. He stands at 42nd In the FedExCup ...
