65-67-69 It looks like Oosthuizen can handle pressure.

Of course that 67 was a gift, playing early on Friday.

They were calling him nerves of steel. He handled the pressure nicely and won by 7 strokes. Congrats to him. Smiley

Tiger Woods coy about Ryder Cup

Quote:
AKRON, Ohio -- Despite several attempts to get him to clarify his position Wednesday, Tiger Woods did not say directly that he will play in the Ryder Cup.

With two events left in the process that determines the eight automatic qualifiers for the United States team, Woods finds himself in the unusual position of ninth, meaning he would need captain Corey Pavin to make him an at-large selection if the picks were made today.

That seems a foregone conclusion, given Woods' No. 1 status in the game and despite his recent struggles on the course ...

That Woods is as high as he is in the Ryder Cup standings is impressive, given his lack of golf this year.

The Bridgestone will be just his eighth tournament, and he's missed one cut and withdrew from another. Woods is ninth in the standings on the strength of three top-10s at the major championships last year (the only 2009 tournaments that counted) and two more top-fives this year, at the Masters and the U.S. Open, where points are worth double.

After the PGA Championship, Pavin will have three weeks before announcing his four captain's picks.

European captain Colin Montgomerie's team will be completed Aug. 29 at the Johnnie Walker Championship in Scotland. He will make his three captain's selections that day.

Tiger never plays well in Ryder Cup/Presidents Cup.  If he doesn't get an automatic bid I think Pavin would be justified in picking Zach Johnson, Luke Donald or Bubba Watson.

Think about Tiger Woods not in the Ryder Cup? Not only would it be stupid but sales would probably be down and most likely viewers will be down ALOT...considering PGA Tour viewers on sunday dropped 50% without Tiger. He shouldnt worry...he's Tiger Woods, even when he plays bad he's in the Top 15. People give him way more crap then he deserves, serouisly. Just because he isnt first place doesnt mean he isnt playing good or not.

It's only Thursday but he's not tearing up Firestone.  At this pace I doubt he'll get the automatic bid.

If he wasn't Tiger would you pick a guy who's Ryder Cup record is 7-11-2, hasn't won all year, is having the worst year of his life and keeps playing worse every week?

The safe bet is to go with the ratings maker and keep the PGA happy.  If Pavin picks Tiger and we lose, well, that's the breaks.  If he doesn't pick Tiger and we lose the PGA won't be inviting Mr. Pavin back in the near future.

Exactly. If we dont see Tiger, we lose fans, they lose ratings on TV and people will lose interest in the Ryder Cup this year.

It just doesnt make sense to not put Tiger Woods on your team. Its like putting the St. Louis Rams vs. Detriot Lions on national TV over the New Orlean Saints vs. Indianpolis Colts. Which one will get more viewers... Wink

And to be honest, ill probably be one of those people who losses a bit of interest in the Ryder Cup without Tiger. Now I am a big golf fan and love the sport so yes I still will be watching it anyways but I wont be as into it if Tiger wasnt playing.

And speaking of Tiger he finished +4 today with 6 bogeys and 2 birdies.  Undecided

People want to watch Tiger Woods like they want to watch John Daly, i.e., a train wreck.

I'd rather see an American team win the cup.

That's because you have to be a golf fan to not care so much about Tiger. I was getting all excited to be seeing some of the great players at the U.S. Open in person that close to me, like Paul Casey, Rory McIlroy, Lee Westwood, Steve Stricker, and the list goes on. I mean it was great to see one of my biggest idols Tiger in person but to see all the other people just follow him the whole entire round and then Phil, just makes you think...why are you here? Watch him on TV, you'll get a better view.

Finishing 78th of 80 at Firestone, Tiger's year is over.

He will finish no better than the top half in the PGA Championship.

He will not make the Ryder Cup.

He will spare Corey Pavin the decision and privately ask to be taken out of consideration.  Pavin will then announce that he has discussed it with Tiger and that they agree this is in the best interest of the team.

Tiger is not eligible to play Kapalua in 2011 so you may not see him again until Pebble Beach in February.

Tiger's season is over.  Next week will prove it.

Now he's hoping to hang on to his career.

I dont see how you can say that. He's done better than half the PGA Tour, just because he doesnt have 4 wins or 6 wins and 1 major like he may have last year doesnt mean anythings over. Some great great golfers finish last, Phil misses cuts, some of the young guys, some of the PGA leaders do too but it seems to be when Tiger isnt in the top 10 then he's either doing horrible, he's done for the year, he's a fluke, he's got other things on his mind etc. He's played 8 events and only missed 1 cut, and last year he only missed 1 cut also. 4 top 25's out of 8 means 50% of the time he's in the top 25 and 25% he's in the top 10.

Thats a decent season, not Tiger worthy but you guys have to remember...he's HUMAN and to hear people just bag on him and say he's horrible now, he cant golf is just absolutely stupid and insulting. He's a great golfer, he might not be having one of those Tiger years but he's proven to everyone he's human and it seems if he doesnt win or get in the top 10 then its like everyone goes nuts like he's finished last...and when he does finish 2nd to last people start bagging on him even harder and worse! Its stupid. His season isnt over, till the PGA Tour season is over in my mind. He was never in contention or even trying to win the Fed Ex Cup or if he was he would have been playing in a whole bunch of tournaments to get points but he still has one more major left and I think he's favored to win that tournament over anybody and if you've checked the World Ranking status, He's still #1... I dont care if he's been playing horrible this year or if he does next year, or his outside life, or who had a better year in 2010...the #1 golfer in the world is Tiger Woods. Theres no reason you should be saying the #1 golfer's season is over inless he tell's the media he's done for the season.

Just my thoughts of people on Tiger Woods. Give the guy a break just because he isnt in first doesnt mean he sucks. Or just because he has a bad golf round doesnt mean he sucks either. For crying out loud its freakin golf. You have good and you have bad days. Tiger isnt a robot. Roll Eyes
