Since I have started the idea of making cars for FS, Hellhound suggested that there should be a Car-Download section.

This should encourage many people to start making cars of there own. Since making a car utilizes almost all the tools in Gmax or FSDS, it will probably help many people [beginner or pro] to expand their knowledge about their design tools.

My knowledge has already greatly expanded ever since I finished and released the Mercedes SL600. Now, as you already know, I'm making the Porsche. I have also aquired the skills to create a detailed human model.

Gmax and FSDS are made to do more than just aircraft and scenery. They can do much more.

At the bottom of my signature, there is a list of websites. Onnovanbraam and Comet-Cartoons are considered great starting points.

I understand there is already the Misc section for all the sims, but the files are kind of disorganized or maybe all over the place.

So, a Car section should draw a lot of attention and encouragement.

You can call me wierd if you like. I like being the only guy making these kinds of addons for a flight sim.  Grin

Besides, I'm getting bored of making aircraft. Roll Eyes

Hi Jessy,
I love the idea of making things other than aircraft as I've always preached how FS has the potential to be far more than just a flight simulator - subject mainly to PC power & the no small task that if Rome wasn't built in a day - the World may take a little longer than 10 years Wink

However for now we only have 2 cars & a bike ... & I think we'd need one or 2 more to make a page not look sadly unpopulated.

It's an ongoing situation & congrats for being a pioneer in this! For that is what you are.

Not long ago, someone in these forums pointed out that I am one step closer to disrupting the virtual car-racing market. Someone else also pointed out that I am changing the overall purpose of the flight sim. Roll Eyes

Well, many people wanted car traffic for FS. Now they got one. Grin

All that's needed is a suitable road or track as scenery along with a surface that's just right.

While I'm basically in the "there are excellent car sims, why add on to a flight sim" camp, I can also enjoy a well built car model.  Maybe I'll dust off my Alfa 158 and go head to head in Monaco with your Mercedes.

Also, isn't a road just a long and winding runway?

I can just see:
Wanted:  A fully detailed Brands Hatch and Jack Brabham's Cooper F.1, Phil Hill's Ferrari sharkmouth.

The thing I like about active/interactive ground vehicles is that it adds more realism to FS.

Why add buildings - have static ground vehicles? So - bring it on & of course we'll have moving ground traffiuc soon. Scenery is getting better all the time. Is that going to stop? Course not. Bring the notion on 10 years & we'll be driving through wooded national parks - it adds a lot more appeal to the whole sim & also adds to the FS experience - Chase a car - practice land on a busy highway as police struggle to clear it in time - emergency flights to accidents meeting ambulance at landing point -

Why add trees & forests? Same notion ...  Smiley I'm looking forward to photo realistic looking jagged rocky mountain tops, heavily forested mountains, traffic jams on airport ring roads, sexy hostesses/co-pilots who'll do a lot more than they do in real life   Cheesy, .... & carb heat!  Wink

FS98 does most of the purely 'fs' stuff fairly well & I sometimes think why would someone want to move on if that's all they wanted?

P.S. One of my workshop projects that may or may not see the light of day is a Bentley Azure Wink

So, you're into Volkswagens now?

Side note:  The "Bentley" in Bentley cars belongs to the same chap that designed the Bentley rotary engines of Sopwith Camel fame....

- no surprise there as for most of it's life Bentley was Rolls Royce in car terms .- one & the same. RR aero engines of course was a completely separate company from the early times..

& on another subject it's interesting how BMW now own the RR licence to produce cars under that name - but Volkswagen own the actual company & factory in Crewe - making Bentley only now.  I can see Ford making 'RR' soon - as it does Range Rover & Aston ......

I better stop before this gets moved to 'Auto's'

There are perfectly good reasons to have cars in the sim...what else would you chase with a police helicopter?

Just imagine the MP session on the Zone... Smiley

Why not have an intermediate step? For now maybe a "Surface Vehicles" page. Put all the boats, ships and cars together. If enough files are released to warrant seperate pages later, fine.

*cringes when Pete realizes I'm now inventing work for him*

Now that makes it more viable .... Quite possibly something that will happen..

Don't worry - I've added this to my 'Steve Daly' folder for later consideration & retribution ....

Don't humor him - next thing he'll want is accurate transmission shifting!

K - the van braam site just added some of my favorite F. cars - of the mid/late sixties period!!!
