You just reminded me that my mom played banjo and ukulele as well as guitar (acoustic); before my birth, she and her youngest sister played over the local radio station; I once had a record of them singing Pistol Packin' Mama but lost it many years ago; I found a version, by a more noted fellow of long ago, but it doesn't have all of the lines my mom and aunt sang.

Its always interesting to remember that our Mums and Dads, from long ago, often played various musical instruments, while everyone listened enthusiastically, including we little ones...

..a lost art now, following the invention of the dreaded; "Television Receiver".

My dear old Mum played her piano, whilst my dear old Dad accompanied her on his Mandolin...(1930's and 1940's)

Watching, and listening to my parents playing music, induced my passion for playing many various musical instruments from a very early age...which I still do!

With much regret, I note that my many/most of/all my Children, Grandchildren, and Great-grandchildren seem to have little or no interest whatsoever in making their own music; with many other distractions and interests taking priority... Cry...!

Such a shame!... Cry...!

Paul..surrounded by all sorts of musical instruments...and no-one is interested!

My boys were informed that they will be having piano lessons for one year. If they enjoyed it, they could carry on, if not they had to chose another instrument for another year, if they really did not like music they could give it up. To date, they love learning the piano Cool

Well done boys....I'm impressed... Smiley...!

Piano/keyboard; The best instrument to learn on with all its notes laid out in a horizontal line. Easy to learn the intervals between notes!
Make sure they keep it up....One day they will be glad they did!

Paul... Cool...!

I actually touched my fingers to a large plumbing soldering iron for an "instant callous" effect; a vain procedure since my 'double-jointed' fingers slipped and locked backwards in the strings (now we know the reason for the name "fret"). My not-so-nimble fingers could play a keyboard, however, and I matched up the notes to my voice on piano or electric organ when writing down music.
