He killed his brother before he went to the school and then went to his mothers classroom and killed her. Ass couldn't stop at that and shot 5 year old children dead. It brings tears to my eyes when I think of the parents that lost their children will go home tonight and unplug the Christmas lights and cry and cry.

This is truly shocking.  It's all over the news with pre-empted broadcasts, and the extent of it is just very difficult to comprehend, especially with all the children involved.

Our thoughts go out to all.

This just slapped me in the head with shock. Prior to my USAF hitch I stayed with them a month but also, when I'd drive home on leave from Nebraska, I'd exit route 84 to see my youngest cousins in Sandy Hook. The youngest moved to Florida with their mom after I finished my hitch in the Air Force and I've had but two phone contacts with two of them and I just sent an e-mail Happy B'day/Thanksgiving to the youngest, reminding her I hadn't seen her since she was almost 11; I couldn't help reminiscing over the past few weeks and missing those days... and now this. I got to know some of their friends at the time -- some of whom may have remained in the area and have children and younger relatives of their own there. Nevertheless, going back far enough, we're all cousins, more or less distant.

Notwithstanding anyone else, and let alone killing, neither can I understand even harming children like this; my natural instinct is to protect them -- heavens, I even have that tendency toward other infant mammals. No matter what any of us do or say, we can't change what's happened; wish we could.

The 1 Thing i've noticed in the last 10 to 12 years is this -

these Shooters, are all 30 yr.old or Under !

under 30 somethings !

Coincedence ?

Well, its that particular Generation, in particular that back in the 1990's era, is about the same time that The VIDEO GAME market started to Explode, and come about, and  those Violent Video Games, shoot em' and Kill, and Murder Video Games .

Back in 1996 and again in 1998 there was talk about all this how these Violent Video games played by young kids could easily influence them or confuse them and Distort the Perception of Reality and Life in General.

Meaning, that after playing hours upon hours of those types of Violent Games, they could possibly percieve this as how to handle a situtation in real life, there was a lotta Debate about this back in the 1990's, and we were WARNED about this, that when this particular Generation grew up and got older, we could expect to see things like this happen - and they wanted those Violent Video Games pulled off the Market and unavailable for sale.

The end result instead was - a Warning label on the outside of the Box, was sufficent enough !

Another contributing Factor, was the Lyrics of some of the RAP Music that was coming out - Advocating Guns, Shootings, Worshipping & Idiolizing Guns, Drugs, Gangs etc.

We've all seen & heard how many  of those so-called RAP artists have been murdered or sent to prision !!

As I sit back and look at it - and develop Tunnel-Vision, everything they said and stated earlier in the past is coming true so far, as Ridlicious as it is and as Insane and Ignorant as it may seem, there is quite a bit of Truth to what they were trying to WARN us about and so far - they've been right on' with their predictions , too badd so many refuse to see and believe it or acknowledge it and comprehend it as its happening !

When I was growing up in the 1960's &1970's era - we didn't have all those Violent Venues Shoved down our throats , we found entertaing things to do, ride bicycles, actually go outside and play with other kids , build forts, play ball, make things, work on things, our bikes or something - go Fishing, hiking, Swimming in the Lakes or ponds or the Creek

We Weren't sitting around for hours on end with some plastic controller in our hands trying to Shoot murder Badd guys on some Video Game for hours upon hours on end trying to get to the next Level where can can Blow things up !!!

The Music we listened to was more Happy & upbeat ,than this RAP music advocating how badd things are, and advocating & Glorifying Guns, Drugs, Shootings, being in a Gang Robberies Car Jackings etc.

From what I'm seeing and witnessed and actually lived thru - the last 35 years, it was that 1990's Sub Culture and Technology that many of these kids grew up on of that particular Generation that has attributed to much of this - and its NOT just the Technology and the advancement of Violent Video Games - but also the way the Medical profession is attempting to treat Society now - with getting everybody on some sort of PILL for this, and a PILL for that, and yet another PILL for this - before ya know it - these Doctors are Brewing a very Toxic Brew inside the human Mind & Body, a Ticking Time Bomb !!!

But Ohhhh Wait - we got another PILL - for that !  Cheesy

and so now the "TOXIC Time  Bomb" has been set and place, just sit back and wait for it to fully Erupt and watch what happens !  Shocked  Sad  Angry

Notice as far as I know to Date - out of all these Shootings - NOT 1 of these Doctors or  supposed Medical Professionals have even been held Accountable or the Pharmseutical Industry ???

Now what does that remind of of recently ??

The Corrupt Bankers & Wall Street Crowd who have seemingly got away with they did, hardly any of those Bank Excecutives & CEO's have gone to Prision for what they've done - Coincedence ???

Do or has any of these Doctors ever gone to PRISION or been indicted for over prescribing medications for their mentally ill patients who just went out and went totally Bonkers !!

Amazing how they all seem so amazingly Innocent within all this !   Shocked

Amazingly - its more about the Almighty Dollar from some of these Doctors and drug companies as to how much money they can make by Shoving PILL after PILL at us and brewing up their TOXIC Brew to eventually turn Brains into absolute Mush causing all kinds of Havoc upon us !

Well its happening, just as they said it would 10-15 years ago, as they said it would and now were seeing the end results from all this and I must say I'm NOT at all Amused - its very Sickening and Pathetic and outright Disgusting !!!  Angry

Think its time to Wake up and pay little more attention and Quit pretending it isn't happening or doesn't excist or isn't happening !

as far as I'm concerned it isn't GUNS that are the True problem - its mentality behind it all !

Drunks in cars kill people all the time , yet I don't hear anybody Advocating to take away all cars trucks bikes !

If GUNS weren't available and were never manufactured - they'd use knives, Axes , Machetes or Chain Saws or some other type of instrument as a Weapon .

Go Ahead chime in, lets hear your thoughts !!!

Thank You, have a nice peaceful Holliday Season a Happy Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year too all Sim Pilots & Moderators Scenery Designers and Aircraft Designers !

Whist I share the shock that this act has brought, I cannot help to note that we are on a whole very selective with our outrage today. For example, last year 33,600 people were killed in road traffic accidents in the USA, that is around 93 per day, two thirds higher than death by shooting and yet, somehow acceptable by our politicians.

I personally think it has to do as much with the growing population as much as it does with games and rappers.
There is a difference, playing a GAME that involves selecting a weapon and pointing a crosshair over somebody or HEARING someone saying it's all great and amazing.

And as I said,it has to do with the population as well, look at the % of the population that behaves like that

The difference being that, however terrible those statistics might be, road traffic accidents are just that & not (in most cases) deliberate or intentional.

I have always thought that the increase in graphically violent films, TV programmes & video games is responsible for the mindset behind some of these senseless shootings.

I am going to be very very blunt here.

Gun control is NOT the issue. Guns have been in private American citizens hands for decades and yet these mass shootings were not an issue. 99.999% of gun owners are law-abiding citizens. 100% of gun using criminals are not.

What IS the issue is attention to special needs people. My in-laws had a string of really bad luck. After my wife was born they could not get pregnant so adopted eventually 2 kids. A girl and boy. Both ended up being the victims of fetal alcohol abuse. The girl is 100% capable of caring out a mass shooting and we all now it. She is completely unstable but she is still just a 14 year old girl that needs care. The boy is a sweat heart but heavily handicapped. The girl (I will just call her M), on many occasions had to have 2+ police officers restrain her. Yet STILL, gov't aid extremely limited for my in-laws. Time after time public school officials and doctors at places like Pine Rest (mental hospital) say there is NOTHING WRONG WITH EITHER OF THE KIDS!!!!!!
Time and time again the community shuns my in-laws. Time and time again the special needs kids are shunned and mistreated by average people.

So no,  gun control is not the damn issue. The issue is people completely ignoring and mistreating all these broken individuals that carry out these horrible acts.

The common thread in these shootings (besides the obvious presence of guns) is a broken shooter. Someone that has not been treated well and needs help bad. One person showing some love and attention to this shooter could have saved all those lives lost yesterday. But you know what, in our (myself and in-laws) experiences, the average person will refuse to step up and offer to help with special needs for whatever reason.

So instead of arguing for/against gun control, lets think about the type of people carrying out these acts. Lets think about giving these people some help!

To be blunt, I guarantee anyone here not a special needs care specialist reading this cannot handle 'M'. She is so damaged she needs daily professional help and lots of medication. She has threatened and tried to kill many many people including her classmates. All the community does is tell my in-laws they are bad parents. No help.

WARNING: DO NOT ARGUE WITH ME ON THIS! If you have not experienced what it is like dealing with special needs people at their worst you have no idea what it is like trying to handle them. Just watch the news though and you can see how bad it can get.

Mark my words.........With the supposed "END OF THE WORLD" a week away, I believe that this is just the start of things to come. People are thinking that "hey, if the world is ending, I can go out and do what I want and not have to worry about the consequences. What are they going to do to me? We're all going to die anyway...right?" "Gun control" isn't going to fix anything. Criminals always find a way..........

I'm not going to argue. However, if you're implying that these mass shootings are carried out by special needs people it might be sensible to keep them well away from firearms.

The thing is;as he said, the government often denies they have special needs(the people, not the government Roll Eyes),and if they actualy DON'T have special needs it'd be even easier for them to get a gun.

Very few people have "special needs". What they do have is a lack of understanding from consequences and knowing what the word NO means. All of which can be linked back to lack of discipline and arty farty teaching methods.

Not that i'm arguing, but a little look at the us weapon industry and their "power" in managing us laws on the subject, might give some answers.

This whole thread had gotten too political for my taste yet I feel the need to add my two cents here.  There have ALWAYS been 'crazies' (please forgive the politically incorrect term here).  With an exponential increase in population you can expect an exponential increase in 'crazies' as well as 'normal' thinking people.
The main ideas I would like to express are:
1.  I grieve for the losses of the involved families.  My heart and prayers are with them. Cry Smiley
2.  I read this morning that parents worldwide are spending extra time with their kids this weekend.  For those who are doing so I grieve also...it shouldn't take a dramatic event for you to let your children know how dear they are to you. Tell them every day. I shouldn't even have to say it. Angry

I think the press is the biggest embarassment in the whole scale of things. If you reread my first comment here, I was going by what was being reported at that time. Big mistake. The police should run them out of town and make them wait until the facts are clear. A state trooper was assigned to each grieving family to keep the press away and insure some privacy for them.

Remember folks this is just the kind of topic that can get out of control.

If you're thinking of posting something you know others won't agree with (something provocative)  --- PLEASE type it out in notepad 1st ... go away for an hour ... then come back and read it. If it still looks OK and that you haven't let emotions take the driving seat ... sure post it.

If things get hot we have to lock the thread and that would be a shame as a lot of great thought is being exchanged.  Cool

Thank you

Fozzer wrote on Dec 16th, 2012 at 10:46am:

Or they could make pipe bombs and do it even faster than a gun...again its the killer that needs attention.

The US gov't already followed the train of thought in that article Paul. Once you could not buy semi automatic weapons with more than 5 rnds internal capacity (except handguns). It was incredibly unpopular because a lot of historic arms had to be altered and even some very small caliber weapons were altered.

Paul, when I was 19 I tried buying ammo for my .22LR Ruger 10/22 to go small game hunting. I did this every weekend all summer but suddenly I could not buy .22LR because it is used in pistols..HOWEVER, I could buy assault rifle ammo.. Likewise I could NOT buy a handgun regardless of caliber but COULD buy very lethal assault rifles..Now that I am over 21 I can do either. But isn't that just stupid?! The US gov't is completely incompetent at writing logical regs.

Not MORE gun control! Like taxes, FAA Regs, and healthcare regs, MORE is not better!!! They need to be 1) better enforced and 2) better written.
Throw away all the current gun control and start from scratch with modern high caliber semi-automatic high capacity assault rifles with the most regulation. It would be escalating legislation which would not harm small caliber plinkers (like my 10/22), hunting weapons, and historic guns (like M1 Garands). Again, MODERN assault rifles (like M4s, Sig556, AK-47, etc) are stupidly dangerous and should be regulated. Personally I say regulate WHO owns them and under what conditions rather than force alterations to the guns (like welding or cutting stuff on them). Mandatory physical alterations have destroyed countless historic pieces that ended up so badly altered they could not even end up in a museum.

This is not rocket science, it's just anti-gun people always scream "BAN!!!!" and pro-gun legislators are heavily against a ban. An outright Ban IS STUPID PERIOD. There is no logic behind an out-right ban, limitations and regulation sure, but bans NO.

A good way to piss off the gun community and guarantee strong opposition to any changes is to mention bans or physical alterations to guns. That WILL make all of us speak very loudly against any reform. But these 2 items are what is suggested the most. EVERY shooter and gun owner always can agree with more safety. If I have to get a psyc exam and background check to own an AR, I will gladly do it because THAT MAKES SENSE!!!! But I do not want the opportunity to own one taken away from me because of some anti-gun whiner in California. If that happens, then I want all their alcohol banned and taken away.

I would ask the anti firearm lobbiest what makes them think a ban on firearms is going to work in the USA? Just because some dudley doo-rite politicians create a ban doesn't mean every gun owner is going to drop to their knees and surrender all firearms. All a ban would do is make them illegal. And by the constitution, this would be an illegal ban.
I think this is something the anti crowd doesn't seem to think about as this would fail worse than the 'war on drugs' did.

Certainly not a time, or place, to glorify; "gun ownership" in the United States of America.
Its all a total mystery to most of us.

The massacre of the innocents.

As you posted a nondirectional post after mine I can't be sure you meant my comment or generalizing. Just to clear up what I meant.. since firearms control is the topic of the day in every newspaper, radio talk show and has even been mentioned here. I neither own a firearm nor take sides in the debate. I am simply saying that peeling 2 or 3 million firearms out of American hands is physically impossible and just banning them would take over 100 years to see any results. I am also sure 'glorifying' food in this thread has another time and place..

My Stance on Gun Ownership is like this :

I don't own any Assault Weapons, don't feel I need to.

I do however own a Registered Taurus 608 Magnum .357 Revolver 8 Shot !

A .12 Gauge Shot Gun
as well as a Rifle.

and 1 .177 High Powered Spring loaded Pellet Gun/ Rutger.

In the event that I'm a Victim of a "Home Invasion" / Robbery, where my front door is Kicked in, or some other means of illegally entry by Criminals, out to Rob me, & Bring Harm to me ,,,,

at least I have a means to DEFEND myself from the Intruders who Inveaded my Home !!

I Highly Doubt under any Circumstances, and in my 49 yrs. I've never seen or heard of it happening, that I'd be able to Defend myself to any Decent Degree - by offering the Criminals , "WINE & CHEESE" , or "COOKIES & MILK" - see where that get ya in a Situtation like that when it comes down !!! Shocked Shocked Shocked

Calling 911 attempting to get the POLICE to your house in time in most cases is next to impossible or the response time is way off, by then it may be too late, and I'm NOT willing to take the chance, especially with my Life !!

I do NOT Idiolize or Glorify my Guns, just doesn't interest me in the slightest , my Guns are like all my TOOLS sitting in my Big Ol' Roll Around Craftsman tool boxes and my Cornwell Roll around tool box , their only good and of use to me when and IF I need to use them, other wize I consider them, kinda Dust Collectors actually !

But, I believe and always have in Fighting Fire, with Fire, showing up at a "Gun Fight" with a "Pocket Knife", I just ain't that Naive & Stupid or Gullible !!  Huh Huh

The last thing I'm gonna do, if Criminals pull a Home Invasion on me, is whip out the 'WINE & CHEESE" or offer them "COOKIES & MILK", and hope everything is going to be just "Hunky-Dory" , "Fine & Dandy" - and as The Inspector said :

If used properly - "it'll remove the Finger Prints" !!  Huh  Shocked  Shocked

a DisArmed Society is a Vulernable Society !

Sincerely, Inspector Harry Callahan  Shocked  Shocked  Huh

I read HANNIBAL and there is much sense in that post.

To be honest, i do have a gun to meet the explosive of home rubberies we now see here.

I also can follow wahubna. This is a very hot subject right now.

Edit. But i'm sure if i use my gun, even to defend me and mine, i would get a sentence in this country....

My two cents worth:

If a madman wants to kill innocent people he will find a way.

Killers don't need guns to kill people.

Timothy McVeigh used fertilizer and diesel fuel....you don't see them outlawed

The 911 terrorist used box cutters and planes. These are still in use as well.

The Nazi's used cyanide gas.

Taking guns from innocent people will not protect innocent people.

The problem is not guns; it's the society that has created a path for evil to grow unimpeded and stifling the voice and teachings of good because it offends a minority of the population.

Sad

I own a rifle, and I have a strict plan of use for it:  It stays in the house at all times.  Never with my in the car, never outside for anything.  Problems outside?  I'll call the cops.  Someone at my front door that I do not know?  I'll get the rifle, get the phone if I need to call the cops, then find out who it is.   No confrontations.

I never open the door without knowing who it is, and anyone coming by always calls first, they know that.  Someone actually breaking in?  If I feel my life is on the line, I'm prepared.  Since it's very difficult to break in here, you'd need a sledge or an ax, the perp already has a weapon ready to go.  Knowing that, so must I.

I do not show friends the rifle, I never speak of it.  It only exists for me, it's not a showpiece.

I spend a lot of time in my yard in the mornings, without any weapons on me, unless you consider tree pruners and pruning shears to be weapons.  Someone comes up, I'll go into the house and enact my security plans.

And I don't fall for the "I'm with the power company, we need to check your wiring inside" stuff.   You see this on the news sometimes, yet people still let strangers inside and end up getting robbed.

Contrive a plan and stick to it.
