I'm not going to argue. However, if you're implying that these mass shootings are carried out by special needs people it might be sensible to keep them well away from firearms.
The thing is;as he said, the government often denies they have special needs(the people, not the government
),and if they actualy DON'T have special needs it'd be even easier for them to get a gun.

Very few people have "special needs". What they do have is a lack of understanding from consequences and knowing what the word NO means. All of which can be linked back to lack of discipline and arty farty teaching methods.

Sir,
That was a very convincing argument you presented.
The part on growing up in the 1960s and 70s was spot on.

Not that i'm arguing, but a little look at the us weapon industry and their "power" in managing us laws on the subject, might give some answers.

This whole thread had gotten too political for my taste yet I feel the need to add my two cents here. There have ALWAYS been 'crazies' (please forgive the politically incorrect term here). With an exponential increase in population you can expect an exponential increase in 'crazies' as well as 'normal' thinking people.
The main ideas I would like to express are:
1. I grieve for the losses of the involved families. My heart and prayers are with them.
2. I read this morning that parents worldwide are spending extra time with their kids this weekend. For those who are doing so I grieve also...it shouldn't take a dramatic event for you to let your children know how dear they are to you. Tell them every day. I shouldn't even have to say it.

I think the press is the biggest embarassment in the whole scale of things. If you reread my first comment here, I was going by what was being reported at that time. Big mistake. The police should run them out of town and make them wait until the facts are clear. A state trooper was assigned to each grieving family to keep the press away and insure some privacy for them.

Remember folks this is just the kind of topic that can get out of control.
If you're thinking of posting something you know others won't agree with (something provocative) --- PLEASE type it out in notepad 1st ... go away for an hour ... then come back and read it. If it still looks OK and that you haven't let emotions take the driving seat ... sure post it.
If things get hot we have to lock the thread and that would be a shame as a lot of great thought is being exchanged.
Thank you

...or from sharp instruments so that I didn't have to catch them less than an arms length from my face; keep them away from their fists so we don't have to ward off the blows as we do our best not to harm them while they're apathetic about whether or not they kill us.

Paul.
Or they could make pipe bombs and do it even faster than a gun...again its the killer that needs attention.
The US gov't already followed the train of thought in that article Paul. Once you could not buy semi automatic weapons with more than 5 rnds internal capacity (except handguns). It was incredibly unpopular because a lot of historic arms had to be altered and even some very small caliber weapons were altered.
Paul, when I was 19 I tried buying ammo for my .22LR Ruger 10/22 to go small game hunting. I did this every weekend all summer but suddenly I could not buy .22LR because it is used in pistols..HOWEVER, I could buy assault rifle ammo.. Likewise I could NOT buy a handgun regardless of caliber but COULD buy very lethal assault rifles..Now that I am over 21 I can do either. But isn't that just stupid?! The US gov't is completely incompetent at writing logical regs.
Not MORE gun control! Like taxes, FAA Regs, and healthcare regs, MORE is not better!!! They need to be 1) better enforced and 2) better written.
Throw away all the current gun control and start from scratch with modern high caliber semi-automatic high capacity assault rifles with the most regulation. It would be escalating legislation which would not harm small caliber plinkers (like my 10/22), hunting weapons, and historic guns (like M1 Garands). Again, MODERN assault rifles (like M4s, Sig556, AK-47, etc) are stupidly dangerous and should be regulated. Personally I say regulate WHO owns them and under what conditions rather than force alterations to the guns (like welding or cutting stuff on them). Mandatory physical alterations have destroyed countless historic pieces that ended up so badly altered they could not even end up in a museum.
This is not rocket science, it's just anti-gun people always scream "BAN!!!!" and pro-gun legislators are heavily against a ban. An outright Ban IS STUPID PERIOD. There is no logic behind an out-right ban, limitations and regulation sure, but bans NO.
A good way to piss off the gun community and guarantee strong opposition to any changes is to mention bans or physical alterations to guns. That WILL make all of us speak very loudly against any reform. But these 2 items are what is suggested the most. EVERY shooter and gun owner always can agree with more safety. If I have to get a psyc exam and background check to own an AR, I will gladly do it because THAT MAKES SENSE!!!! But I do not want the opportunity to own one taken away from me because of some anti-gun whiner in California. If that happens, then I want all their alcohol banned and taken away.

I would ask the anti firearm lobbiest what makes them think a ban on firearms is going to work in the USA? Just because some dudley doo-rite politicians create a ban doesn't mean every gun owner is going to drop to their knees and surrender all firearms. All a ban would do is make them illegal. And by the constitution, this would be an illegal ban.
I think this is something the anti crowd doesn't seem to think about as this would fail worse than the 'war on drugs' did.

Certainly not a time, or place, to glorify; "gun ownership" in the United States of America.
Its all a total mystery to most of us.
The massacre of the innocents.
