Well apparently riding a 'sea cow' is illegal, darn, looks like I have to change my Florida vacation plans.... Grin

I feel so safe living here.

There are no unsolved murders, robberies, burglaries or other serious crimes so the state attorney has time to prosecute this.

As one who once had a close up encounter with a manatee, while boating in the Florida Keys long ago (it came up along side the boat, I could have reached out and touched it, but I did not), it's important to understand that this animal is a protected species and as such deserves every respect.  Whereas just touching one or "petting" one may be OK, riding one like that is just not done, period.

Manatees have enough problems with boaters who, by carelessness, unintentionally cause injury.  There is no need to show off by riding one.  They are very gentle and slow moving creatures and don't need this kind of stress.

And as we all know, ignorance of the law is no excuse.

In my opinion, I believe that this person meant no harm, and that just a fine is in order here, no jail time.

I was about to make a wisecrack about my ex-wife being a manatee but your reference to them being gentle took all the wind out of my sail!  My ex is more akin to a raging bull. Smiley
