...My lovely Sister came up from London today to visit me, and sample one of my usual amazing Dinners, and during her visit I took her on a FS 2004 and Google Street Map trip to many of my favourite places in California, setting down on many of the Google Map Interstate Highways, and wandering around to examine the surrounding scenery.
During one of these low-level explorations wandering down Highway 1 on the Pacific Coast Google Map, she enquired if it was possible to actually travel along the Google roads, ...as in a moving vehicle, (rather than step-by-step)?
In other words, has anyone produced a video of a tour along some of these famous roads, by attaching a camera to the front of their vehicle, and recording the journey!
I was not aware of such an enterprise, but on reflection thought what a wonderful idea it was!
Imagine a highway trip from Chicago to Santa Monica along stretches of Route 66, or a wonderful trip hugging the Pacific coast along Highway 1 from San Francisco to Los Angeles over the Bigsby Bridge, and maybe a trip along Highway 101, or Route 5, from Seattle to San Diego!
Does anyone know of such a set of streaming videos, or a CD that has been produced of such scenic trips?
What a wonderful way to explore the delights of California, etc, from the comfort of my arm chair!
Any thoughts, Chums?
Paul....
...!
I have made a couple of Videos of my Motorbike trips using a small spy camera attached to the bike, but they are only very short in duration, and of nowhere in particular, so the actual idea works.
I wondered if any if the Interstate Bus Companies, (Greyhound?), had ever recorded any of their journeys of particularly scenic routes!

Maybe not exactly what you're looking for Foz, but these areas are where Wendy and I have made a few trips on the Bandit.....you can find Vancouver Island vids and quite a few through the area of Hope and all across the Crowsnest Hwy, which I have travelled from end to end.....hope you enjoy.....
There is a four part section of Duffy Lake to Seton Lake.....winds up about 3-4 minutes short of Lillooet, where Wendy and I went for lunch a couple of months ago, just so we could say we had some mountain riding this year....most of that ride is on this wonderful archive, from the Sea to Sky vids to Whistler, Pemberton, Hwy 99 and the Duffy Lake road....wish you were here to ride it with us once.....

Many thanks for the link, Ken!
I remember your visit to Lillooet, and the Photo. I Google Street-mapped it, and had a walk around the area!
My camera is only a cheap MD 80 spy-cam (£9! - £45)...>>>

and does not produce very good results; low frame rates, and excessive wind noise!
Another problem, on a motor-bike, is locating the camera to prevent vibration! On my little RXS 100 2-stroke, (and the Honda CB 500)) wherever I mount it, either on the bike, or on myself, it picks up all the vibration and noise, and spoils the video!
They seem to be better suited, mounting on the dash board in a motor car...(or the front of a Greyhound 'Bus)!
One of my Lads has an expensive Go Pro 2 camera (£200 - £300) which is better suited for the job, (he fits it on his helmet for his off-road cycle rides!)!

Amateur videos, (compared to Los Angeles Film Companies!), produce very low frame rates, resulting in "jittering" and blurring of the scenery.
I am reluctant to buy a more expensive camera, due to this problem on a motor-bike!
Don't forget to video that trip down Highway 1, from Seattle to San Diego, passing through San Francisco!..
