Been hitting the books lately in preparation for earning my commercial glider ticket, and found myself taking a FAA written test today for the first time in about 15 years (no written for my PP-glider as I'd already done the PPASEL). Pretty scary, but I scored 89 out of 100, which is respectable.
The most challenging thing about the test was how little it had to do with anything relevant to flying gliders in daytime VMC without radio navigation equipment... that and some truly nonsensical questions. Oh well, it's the FAA- they're not happy until you're not happy, as the saying goes.
So now it's a matter of the oral and checkride... hoping to get those done this fall. Then I can go get rich flying gliders... not!
