Heya guys,
thanks to CHUCK79 mentioning about the Area51 sale i decided to treat myself. this is an aircraft i love and have spent a while working with, Area51 aircraft admittedly arent the best payware out there but are a lot better than some Justflight products ive purchased in the past, unfortunatly the sound is wrong and the aircraft isnt reaching as high as i would like, but im not complaining when it was this cheap and nearly all else was great  Smiley

Nonetheless here is my fun with a particular favourite flying from the only base it seemed necessary.

Excellent! Always liked the U-2 as my dad was stationed at Beale.

Would this one be considered a U-2S? Trying to figure out an engine sound that would work better. I know this engine is an altered f101 design... so perhaps an f-15 sound?

Older U-2... Can use several sounds. the J75 is basically a bigger J57... so perhaps use an F-105, or heck, even a 707 sound!

Oh you would see them at Edwards as well... but usually in the white NASA livery.  Wink

Hey Rob, from what i just read on wiki the f101 was for the B-1, used on an early F-16 and became eventualy the basis of the cfm 56 Huh

But the U2 - all i ever think of is Gary Powers when i see one...was he shot down or was he not? Interesting  Smiley

But nice shots, ive not seen one with the 'thing' on top of it before Wink

Ahh, typo... meant f110, which was used in the f-14b/d, f-15, and f-16

"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth and danced the skies on laughter silvered wings. Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun split clouds.....and done a hundred things you have never dreamed of.....wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there, I've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.

Up, up the long, delerious, burning blue I've topped the wind swept heights with easy grace where never Lark, nor even Eagle flew. While with silent lifting of mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of god"

Yeah maybe an F 15 sound would make it better, I'm gunna max out its altitude later to see what they have it set at.

Cheers for the comments though

she climbed to a full 65200 before i ran out of fuel, it took a while and i was on the stalling speed pretty much the whole flight up there. it seems ive gotta buy a realy U2 to go higher!  Grin

You ran out of fuel? I thought these things could loiter about for ages at silly heights? Interesting!

It took me a long time to get up to that height, I had the simulation rate up to 32X at one point because it was taking so long.

The flight dynamics are wrong, it seems to overspeed at 220 knots which is very different to the cruising speed it should have of 370 knots http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lockheed_U-2#Specifications_.28U-2S.29

But it's still fun to fly and brings back so many memories  Smiley

One thing to remember is the difference between indicated airspeed and true airspeed when looking at numbers like that.  Depending on temperature, 220 knots indicated could be 370 knots true at around 30000 ft.   At 60000, you could be doing 220 knots indicated, but true airspeed is almost 600 knots.

Whenever I think of U2 I think of vertigo, elevation etc. Grin

Anyways:
I think you climbed too slowly, tery and keep 100 knots indicated during the climb...
