Hey guys,
finally bought a new rig:
Intel Core i7-2600K (3.4GHz)
8GB Corsair-RAM
nVidia GTX 570
Win7 x64
Runs pretty good since my OS-drive is a speedy Corsair- Force3-SSD...
Well, back to topic: Got FSX installed on a second HDD yesterday and now - since I've been away for a few years - want to get my FS as shiny as possible. So here's the request:
Could you just list your must-have freeware to enhance the environment and maybe some 'you-shall-not-miss-this' planes?!
Just downloaded the free stuff from REX (like grass textures,...) and nick's sunfix here on SimV. Any other stuff I must have this days?

HDE clouds and sky adapted for FSX is a MUST.
ENB bloom is also great but I lost the link, its best if you tweak it to your own needs.
Those are 2 most have aditions that improve the look 10X
Some must have planes:
simshed nimrod
IRIS freeware, especialy their texanII and kittyhawk are amazing.(just look for IRIS)
Dino's f14 and t45 goshawk
alrot's jets,they're amazing.
Incase you want realism check out the damage and wear mod for some aircraft.
Some amazing scenery can be found at ORBX,a MUST have is their amazing PNW demo,time-unlimited and covering a part of washington.

Thanks!
I already contacted Daube for a bloom introduction - seems simple to install (if you got the files...) but hard to tweak.
Actually I haven't found the HDE cloud and sky for FSX - any trusty link - preferable form SimV?
And I just watched some ORBX-vids:
I think I might soon get my first payware. But since then: is the freeware stuff worth trying?

ENB Series is one of the best Addons for FSX But be sure you have the Hardware capable for running on your system. Also Try this for your ENB Config. Here is a link to the ENB Series you need.

The Demo (Free) of ORBX PNW; (Pacific North West).
The Demo version only replicates the; "Spring" Season scenery.
The Full Payware Version allows user selection of Seasons, etc...
The Demo version is well worth trying out!

No...
...but as they are free, and if you have enough space on your Hard Drive, there is nothing to be lost by trying them out.
They can always be uninstalled if not to your satisfaction...

Have a nice sunday
As already been said, the freeware PNW and Tazmania are trully excellent pieces of freeware scenery. I don't have the Tazmanian one, but the PNW demo covers the whole Olympic pensinsula west of Seattle, and includes some nice airfields on this area. There is one of these though, which is much more detailled, including the surrounding area: Bowerman KHQM. This one is included in the demo in order to show to potential customers the average quality of the additionnal payware airports.
I have bought the PNW region, and I love it. I have also bought two additionnal airports for PNW: Concrete Mun and Darrington Mun. The "default" representation of these airports is already quite nice in PNW, but the addons ones are just fantastic. If you want payware scenery for bush flights, PNW is an absolute must-have. Addons airports are "nice to have", depending on your own taste, since the default ones (I mean, default from PNW, not default from FSX
) are already enjoyable, with custom objects, grass etc...
Try the PNW demo first, see how the small airfields are done (I recommend trying Sekiu 11S), and compare with Bowerman KHQM. Go explore the nearby mountains. Enjoy your flights

I only did that one, and the two free rex grass/roads.
Looking good.

Comparing the filesizes I don't think the 1st download on the page is a stand-alone package... Looks like an update for the HDEv2.
Nevertheless I just installed the HDEv2 (2nd download from the page Daube posted), installed the cloud.bmp's - and my FSX crashed...
Had a back-up luckily...

Don't install the sky on HDEv2 !
The updated sky is so you don't crash in FSX!

The FSX-converted package includes only the sky colors.
You have to know that the original HDE packages includes clouds AND sky textures (to change the sky colors at dusk, day and dawn). Unfortunately, the sky textures format has changed from FS9 to FSX, unlike the clouds textures. That means that FS9 clouds textures will work in FSX, but the FS9 sky textures will NOT work in FSX.
This "FSX-converted" sky textures package is the answer to this problem. So you should install the original HDE v.2 clouds textures, plus the FSX-converted HDE sky textures, ot get a complete HDE installation into your FSX
Got bloom ?
Got mountains ?
Got damage ?
