Is there a way to cause a square gauge to display as circular by editing the panel.cfg line for that gauge?

No way in the panel.cfg. You need to edit the gauge's bmp and make those areas you want to 'hide' transparent (0,0,0 black).
If it's an .xml gauge, usually contained in a gauge .cab file, it's quite easy.

Thanks for the reply. Am I correct that the process would to be open the radar bmp file in dxtbmp and send it to the editor much in the same way a texture is edited?

Yes, editing the .bmp is the same. Save in it's original format.
Be aware though that you can't simply extract the .bmp from the .cab file, edit and then drop it back into the .cab. If you're not familiar with 'packaging' .xml gauges let me know.
Also, what gauge are you editing? If you need further assistance it would help if I have the same gauge to look at.

I am not at all familiar with packaging xml gauges and it sounds as though I may have gotten into something larger than my capabilities. I have taken on a couple of repaints and changed out some gauges but that is about the extent of it. What I contemplated doing was install a radar display in the Virtavia F-4. The VC panel has a replica of the radar in the correct position however, it is nothing but a blank glare shield. My intent was to make the panel more realistic. In the Navy F-4J the front scope was but a repeater of the RIO's scope so the ability to operate the radar is not necessary in this case. I had intended to try to make the square acceleration F/A-18 radar round and place it in the F-4. I figured that I could do it more cheaply than McD/Boeing but maybe not.

This gauge may work. It's a round radar gauge from an F-100. It's called _PD.radar.gau if you want to try to find it on the net.

I don't hate the Gators any more - not since Steve Spurrier left.
I watch more Florida than Florida State football because Florida plays in a better conference.
There is only one game I want Florida to lose each year - the Saturday after Thanksgiving.
