Well, for the first time in my 48 years of living, I have officially filed for unemployment. Weird, but although I have several long periods of being unemployed, I never felt the need to file. I always felt that the few times I've been fired, I deserved it so the state (and taxpayers by extension) shouldn't be on the hook. When I've quit, I never felt the need for it because, well, I quit... This time though, I'm laid off for a couple of weeks while the GM plant I deliver parts to shuts down for re-tooling and have bills that have to be paid, mortgage due, kids to feed, dogs, etc. It'll happen again at the end of July, but then we're going on vacation to Colorado.

I'm sure you've paid enough in taxes over the years to cover it.

Fortunately, I have only been unemployed once (so far in this life). I was fired because the maintenance facility I worked at closed over night. Fortunately, I had seen it coming and already had another job lined up. However that job did not start for 3 months. In the mean while I went back to school and got a new qualification that benefited my new employer. I claimed unemployment money. All my life up to that point I have paid my taxes on time and in full. As far as I was concerned it was time to dip into the pot and sign on. I had bills to pay and had to live. No guilt, no bad feeling I was cheating, just happy I could pay the bills. I knew I was going to be a very short term drain on the system, but when you compare it to the professionally unemployed, I cost nothing.

I've been on it since August of last year. The shop I worked for was restructured and bought out by another company in Canada. After about a month after the buy out they decided youth was better than experience so a bunch of us were cut loose (They told me no reason, gotta let you go). At first I felt bad, then I realized 18 years in the automotive industry, The last eight in estimating, I paid my dues and took a break. My old job has been calling me all week to work things out, hoping to go back by next week.
And you guys were probly wondering this whole time.....How the hell does he have so much time to post dozens of screenshots....MY SECRET REVEALED!!
.
I also have a buddy that has his own bodyshop too if im in a crunch. I roll down there and do some bodywork and presto! Beer money!
Relax,you earned it!

Glad to hear you've got a side-gig with the body shop, Mike.
For a moment I thought I helped to finance that wonderful feast you had last Saturday through taxes!
Just kidding!

Just a quick update so as not to start a new thread. I got my old job back and started back today after a 9 month "break". It's just as I left it too. Total chaos, nothing done and or nothing done right. As if i were on vacation and come back to find anything you had anything to do with still be there untouched when it should be gone...Ahhh life in the collision repair business. If you weren't an alcoholic going into the auto business.....(Yoda Quote).."You will be....Youuuuuu willll beeeee"..
I'll be fine. I can do it, I have for over 18 years. Now if I can just keep from drinking a 24 pack a night after hours
Mike....On beer#6........7.......
