I've been wanting to get back into FSX, but I'm having strange issues.

First of all, FSX crashes to desktop after every flight, it'll only let me fly once per session, even if the flight is only a minute or two long.

Secondly, all of my settings reset every time I restart the program; Graphics settings, AI traffic, Sound, Realism settings, Weather settings, Controller settings, Keybinds, even the joystick's calibration seems to go out of whack every time I restart the program.  This is made even more annoying by the first problem.

Can anybody help me?

Your settings are reset probably because of an authorization issue.
Try editing the properties of the FSX shortcut on your desktop, activate the option "run as administrator", see if the issue still happens.

Concerning the crash after each flight, this may be due to a module, or to the tweaks in the FSX.cfg, there are so many possible causes, it's impossible to point out the right one.

I saw a post recently with a link to an auto tweak on the fsx.cfg. I even did it myself and got fsx running 25% smoother, but i simply cant find it nor remember the link name.
Worth trying, and i hope the poster see this.  Roll Eyes
I'll for sure have my pencil ready.

Found it http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html

Ok, it's still crashing, but only intermittently, the crashes don't seem to be happening as regularly as they used to.

Crashes might might happen because of hardware overheating.
Perhaps with the new settings from ventubo, your hardware does not overheat as fast as before ?
Have you cleaned the interior of your computer recently ?

EDIT: also, if you are using Windows 7, you might want to make a search about the "uiautomationcore.dll", a problematic file that causes instability when using the game menus, and that can be "replaced" by downloading a correct one and placing it directly in the game installation folder (the game will use this one instead of the standard Windows one).

I think Daube is on the spot conserning heating.
Pull your gpu(s) "out of the box". Clean it with air, but be careful using it on the propeller(s)

I use WinXP.  I'll try cleaning it, but I'm not entirely sure that's the problem, It doesn't seem to have problems flying for extended periods, it only crashes when I try and load a new flight.

Could be a memory lack problem.
Whats your physical ram?

Try an add phys ram by 1.5 and store that into your virtual inside windows. It might help.

Unless what m$ tells as minimum, i think you need at least 1gb more. FSX is a wolf eater, ram conserning, believe me.
