Today I had two different computers become infected with the SMART FORTRESS 2012 malware after connecting to FSPilotShop.com. Symantec Endpoint Protection failed to block it.
I was able to remove the malware by rebooting in Windows Safe Mode and running Malwarebytes Antimalware, first doing a Quick Scan. That got it off, then a Full Scan for safety's sake.
I'd prefer to run a different antivirus but Symantec is the one my employer licenses. We plan to change to Microsoft Forefront Security, the enterprise version of their free Security Essentials antivirus/antimalware protection. I run Security Essentials at home and have been very pleased with it. It actually tells you what's going on and what to do, unlike the more cryptic Symantec.

Symantec and Norton sleep in the same bed. Very obtrusive and not a very agile software. AVG failed me twice. I've said this before and I'll say it once more.. Vipre is not free but on all three machines in the house, each with different user search habits, Vipre has caught every thing the web has thrown at us for 2 and a half years. I am very happy with it, as I know no software can stop all of the bad boys but Vipre has outperformed every other anti malware/virus/etc software I have ever had. Vipre is very mild on your PC performance. Malware bytes and some other free software programs are very good but they are most usefull after the fact. And no, I don't own shares in Vipre!

Symantec/norton is not easy to get rid off, i tell you. Try to uninstall and you'll think you have a virus onboard!! I know people says, that was some years ago, but it isn't.
Use mse, avira or avast!
I know i'll get some spanking for this.

I successfully removed the virus from my computer. I hope the large amount of people who visit pilot shop has had the same success as I did. :/

Yes i know that Steve, but not all are aware they have to do it that way! And i'll bet, that tool will not remove everything in the registry!
Wanna bet

Count me among the victims.........trying to get rid of it now........having to use my wifes' computer to access the internet
"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth and danced the skies on laughter silvered wings. Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun split clouds.....and done a hundred things you have never dreamed of.....wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there, I've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delerious, burning blue I've topped the wind swept heights with easy grace where never Lark, nor even Eagle flew. While with silent lifting of mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of god"

Does anyone know if they've fixed their problem ?
I'm looking to buy some more ORBX NA scenery from The Flightsim Store. Is there any connection between The Flightsim Store and FSPilotshop ?
Just being cautious, that's all.
Thanks,
jime
