Man, have you been reading about this stuff? Until I read about this, Haggis was the most disgusting thing I had ever seen. This is worse...
Basically, they take all of the meat scraps, cartilage, and everything else they can't use. mash it all together, then spray it with ammonia hydroxide to kill any E. Coli floating around on it. This is the stuff they use for dog food and they want US to eat it. I think I'll pass...

Believe it or not, this stuff has been used for human consumption since the 70s when it was first approved. Almost all fast food restaurants, and many grocery stores, have used ground meat containing various amounts of this stuff. It is getting a lot of attention now, thanks to the internet and social networks. It has already had an effect, as a company that produces this stuff has a factory not far from here, and it has had to shut down.
Bad thing is, this is probably just one of many processes commonly used in the mass production food industry these days. Mechanically separated chicken anyone?

I said it when I first heard about this stuff... And I will say it again... I thought the food tasted so much better when they were using this stuff instead of real meat
All food is bad food. It's either grown funny, or processed awkwardly, and usually cooked in a terrible way. Fine dining experiences produce some incredibly unhealthy food - But it looks nice, so people assume it must be healthy. Pretty much everything fried (like steak, and often fish) will have been fried with a slab of butter to improve the taste.
The only benefit to pink slime is that they're not pretending otherwise. They know it's bad, and they sell it as a really cheap product.
With food you just have to select how 'bad' you want it to be. It's hard to find 'good' food.

The other side of it, as the world becomes more and more populated, processes that take the scraps that would otherwise be thrown out and make them into something edible, not matter how gross it appears or sounds, may become more important. Everyday we find new ways to produce more food with the resources we have, for a growing record number of people worldwide.

Oh, you will wish you didn't say that...
...I'm not sure if I had the guts to post it, but a Japanese scientist found a way to convert proteins into a beef-like substitute. The proteins were taken from, well, 'number 2' waste of the other food you'd eaten. Though I'm not certain that I would ever want to eat it, my only observation was that all food is sourced from plants which are grown in **** anyway

Pay a visit to the kitchen of 'zeeland' in holland, especialy the south has used many organ meats in their cooking like cow-tongue with madeira sauce and chicken-hearts with the chicken.
When we served it to the neighbours we didn't tell them what it was and they loved it,untill they knew what it was.

That reminds me of a section of text I read about the Enterprise (Star Trek). I'm not a trekky by any means but the book was more like a manual for the actual ship. Bluprints, tech specs, the whole nine. Anyway this one section in the "manual" talked about the replicators on board that made all the food and drinks and how they worked. They pretty much did exactly what you described above. Process the waste on the ship, extract the "good stuff" and poof...A bacon double cheese burger would appear.....You want fries with that?
If a Japanese scientist is already discovering ways to process are waste then perhapse a "Star Trek" life style isn't that far off in the future. I'll stick to cows as long as I can. That really dampened my spirits when I saw the above pic. Before I read it I thought it was strawberry soft serve ice cream
