That didn't take long. Wonder why they're releasing it so soon? (Surely it's because of Flight's overwhelming success thus far...)

& this is comes after the MS Flight project leader
specifically
told us all in a room in December that it would be 'Hawaii only' ......
- they must have been working on Alaska at that stage already ....
Well lets' see what else they have in mind ..... But if it starts with, as it seems, hoodwinking the FS site owners into giving them free publicity ... it would seem to be NOT GEARED AT ANYTHING OTHER THAN MILKING THE COMMUNITY FOR ALL THEY CAN ....

So, Microsoft will release more scenery for Flight ... no big surprise. Microsoft will gin up publicity ... no big surprise. Microsoft will try to get lots of users (and customers for DLC) ... again, not really a big surprise.

Based on what Pete alone has said, is there really a bright side? With MS giving us all the finger with one hand, and reaching for our wallets with the other, are you telling me you're looking forward to more?

Or they are desperately looking to save the actual reputation of this
fraud
,I mean Flight game, but even with the tricks I can also get them and even better with FSX .. I don't trust them ,I don't believe them
this is and act of desperation ,they already know they has crap it on them selves ,they now know the negative flight is getting in all FS websites
so soon? they are announcing that there will be more part of the world? ...B.S**s

Meh. These packages are cheaper but generally more expansive and functional than most of the payware out there for FSX. I'm pissed about the loss of freeware addons as much as anyone, but it's blatantly hypocritical for people who buy FSX payware to complain about these addons.

There is one key difference. Payware addons for FSX, FS9, etc. albeit for a fee, are generally produced by people who actually ENJOY flight simulation and care about enhancing the flight sim experience as a whole, where as addons for Flight are purely about making money, and as Alex pointed out, MS saving their butts from a PR disaster.
I'm sorry...I mean no disrespect.

Considering that there are people from the ACES team working on Flight, I'm pretty sure they enjoy flight simulation, too. I really don't care who gets my money as long as the product is satisfying anyway, and as someone who makes freeware I'm even more inclined to dislike the payware community just for the sheer amount of barely freeware-quality shovelware that gets a pricetag put on it.

Three things that should never be discussed at SimV...religion, politics, latest game/sim release from MS...

I will again throw in the crucial factor as I see it -- OPEN INPUT is what made FS what it is today. MSF has just a few contracted developers who in no way can create what has gone before ...
Open input, in my mind, allows for free and varied thinking and therefore far greater progress.
--- and this is why simviation exists ---
FSX, Flightgear and possibly P3D (and probably others we have yet to hear about) all have enormous potential as they are open digital world landscapes upon which to do whatever anyone wishes to do ...

I have to disagree with you. We know that ACES was very dedicated to the flight simulator franchise in the past. The fact that some of these guys worked on Flight and are back at Microsoft should show that the people working on it actually do care. I have no idea what the head guys at Microsoft actually want (its probably money) but I'm pretty sure the guys making the sim itself and the add-on content are actually dedicated to what they are doing.
PS: It has been reported that Microsoft has taken loads of photos of the 787 Dreamliner exterior and interior. Maybe we'll be seeing a 787 included with the Alaska DLC so we can actually get there from Hawaii.

Brandon, at least the leader of the Flight team isn't passionate about FS.

I was initially skeptical about joining this team, having never been a flight simulator fan.
Also even the leader of the Flight Team thinks it's a game.

Welcome to Catch22. Microsoft has for some time now been examining their revenue streams on all their products. FS had a small revenue stream for MS due to the fact that it WAS open. So on the one hand we would expect Microsoft to create FS11 etc but expect them to do this for little money.
however MS knows that flight games are a good potential market area. I am quite sure that inside Flight there is a lot of FS code. Has to be. And I can also imagine that someone inside MS had to fight hard to keep them in the flight simulation game. So they came up with Flight. it is probably the only way the MS management allowed the developers to stay in the flight simulation game. Stripping out the third party element. Where they went wrong, was in NOT actually releasing a FS11 with the third party development option removed somehow. (So existing planes would fly, inside Flight running a FSX emulator) while all the fancy new stuff , better planes, graphics etc would run in Flight only. Although it would not please all, it would be a compromise that could have worked. This way MS would have kept everybody on board I think. As it is, they have decided that the existing simmers community isnt worth bothering with at the moment. Eventually flight may develop to a point where it once again becomes interesting. But that product will deliver MS a good revenue stream by then. We are enthusiasts, they run a business. I think they messed up. but its their choice.

So because
some
of the developement team are former members of ACES, (That sim development team MS owned and has since shut down, meaning some of them were told to start looking for work elsewhere) that means that Microsoft kept them on for their passion and dedication to the continuation of quality in flight simulation? Or is it more likely that those FORMER members of the ACES team (again, the one that MS shut down) that worked on the Flight project are just the best "former members of Aces" that Microsoft was able to afford or still submissive enough to keep around?
Not saying that they didn't bring anything to the table for Flight. From the code writer's point of view, I'm sure that Flight is a well developed and highly complex piece of coded artwork. However, just because they were ACES does not mean they should be on a pedestal as so many seem to suggest. They are after all, software designers with
mortgages
first
, and flight sim enthusiasts
second
.
