It must of been from one of many aircraft i've loaded in the past few days then deleted for some reason or another. What's happening now is instead of the usual vapor effect on the wingtips they are tinted grey rectangular looking blocks. I know it's an effects issue from a download but I don't want to delete the wrong thing in there and do more harm than good. Is there a fix or replacement package somewhere?

If they look like this...
...

That's probably caused by a missing/damaged .bmp needed by the .fx file.

In the case of the default  vortex .fx (fx_wingtipvortice_l (and _r).fx) the file is fx_smoke.bmp found in the ....\Effects\texture\ folder.

Yes thats what they look like. I think I know what your saying but it looks like one run on sentence making it confusing Grin. Do I simply go in and add that text to the effects file? And or someone type the file here so I can copy and paste to a folder then add to the effects file to overwrite what is causing the issue?

At this point there is no editing to do. Just look in the ...\Effects\texture\ folder and see is the fx_smoke.bmp file is there.

If it's not there then that is the problem.

If it is there, right click on the file name a select 'Properties'. In the Properties window check the file date and size.

There is a texture folder within my effects folder. I looked there and it is not there at all. Does this mean delete FSX and start from scratch to get the one file back or is there a way to put the CD in and repair my install?
