I wondered one day:how bad is my PC?
I know its pretty bad for FSX. Tongue

but these are the specs i know:

OS: windows 7 home premium 64x bit.
CPU: AMD athlon II X3 (425 triple core processor)
Memory: 3GB DDR2
HDD: 320GB
GC: nivada geforce 9200 intergrated.

I run FSX at medium/high settings at 4-12,9-16 or 16-20 depending on the aircraft+location.

Could I get more out of it or am I already at max for FSX?

(ps:I WONT overclock.)
PSS:I also have an external memory thing, don't know how   much it is tough. Tongue

You could get more out of it with an improved fsx.cfg file

http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html

Enter your computer specs as asked for and run your FSX cfg through this tool. Could help improve your FPS. Also, some optimized display settings always help. (ie: Don't use bloom, no scenery ground shadows, lower cloud coverage, low AI traffic, etc...things that won't make a huge difference.)

I have an Intel Core 2 Duo CPU E7200, an NVIDIA GeForce 9500GT, and 8GB RAM...with all the optimizing I've done to my CFG (not just with the tool, but also custom tweaks) and settings, I get around 15-30 FPS, depending on location. Our lower end computers won't get us the best FPS out there, but there are certainly things that can be done to get the most out of them. FSX is very demanding.

Your card would fit under the GeForce 9 series or equivalent option.

Last Month I decided to stick more RAM ( memory sticks) in my computer, my new computer came with 6GB, and I still had 2 Slots left in my motherboard - and the specs said it was good for up to 16GB of Ram,, so off to the puter store I went ( Micro- Center) - web link ------} http://www.microcenter.com/  ,,,, and picked me up 2 more sticks of Ram / Corsair on sale of DDR-3 too,, so I stuck them in in along with a new "XFX RADEON 6850 Graphics card and a new 650 Watt power supply and Presto , Flight Sim FSX Gold with Acceleration came alive,, works really superb now, coupled with TRACK IR-5 and Fraps , and the Saitek Digital Flight Yoke and Saiteks Combat Rudder Peddles , and The graphics card will allow you to use up to 6 screens, tho I only use 2 - 27" in. flat screens couple with the Logi-Tech Sound System ----} http://www.logitech.com/en-us/speakers-audio/home-pc-speakers/devices/7929   Now I can Fly like I want to heres some Video's -----} http://www.youtube.com/user/IFLYWINGS?feature=mhee   -/- I forgot to mention that now the computer has 4 Sticks of RAM all 4, are 4 Gigs each for a grand total of 16 GB of Ram.

It's funny...I tried using it, but never got a noticeable improvement in FPS. I'd try locking FSX's FPS at 30 and see what kind of performance you get. If it's stuttery, I'll help you out with the external limiter. Tweaking FSX involves taking one step at a time.  Cheesy Make a tweak, evaluate performance, make another tweak, evaluate, etc.

Try put the limiter on something low, like 2,if the max FPS you get in FSX is 2,its owrking,if its above,it isn't working. Wink

The integrated graphics card is the only weak point, really.  Get something decent to replace it for around $100 and FSX will run way better.  Integrated graphics will just strain the CPU, which FSX is pretty heavy on already.

We've been thinking about that for quite some time.
We do have this better graphics card but it doesn't fit,its probably going to wait till the next holiday before we buy and install a new one. Wink

I don't have a high end PC just a newer one.
HP P7 AMD Athlon Quad core 8 Gig ram and an onboard ATI 6650 graphic card.
FSX runs great.
But....I have a ATI HD 4670 1 gig graphic card that I wanted to install in the new PC....Guess what..No go. There are NO slots for a graphic card nor a sound card.
Just the same. FSX is good with the sliders set at 3/4.
I'm happy.  Smiley

NOTICE : To All of you Fantastic wonderful Flight Sim Hobbyist like my Crazy Self - I see a lot of you wanting to eventually be able to upgrade your computers for whatever reason, which is Great !!  I also did the same thing this past summer / fall,,, I want to make sure and inform all of YOU wanting to upgrade to be better Video Graphics Card - to make really sure you read the information on the box or instructions of that video card your wanting to buy - BECAUSE - you may also need to get yourself a new "POWER SUPPLY" to power that new Video/ Graphics Card properly !!! Not just any Video Graphics card you get will just get up and running in whatever computer you have with the current under rated POWER SUPPLY that came with your computer - for Example - I originally had in my computer a 450 Watt Power supply, I bought a New Video / Graphics Card an XFX Radeon 6850, its minium I believe is 500 watt power supply so I went ahead and got a 650 Watt Power Supply because of all the other flight sim gadgets that are hooked to my computer thought a few extra wouldn't hurt,, Just be sure all you out there that when getting a new Video / Graphics card for your puter that it matches with what power supply you already have in your computer , or you'll end up very frustrated and angry when it doesn't work properly !  There should be a tag or Sticker on the side of your power supply that'll tell you how big & what power supply is in your computer - and also make sure to read the box info for the new Graphics Card your thinking of getting. Don't make the mistake like I did and enlist the help of some sales person for advice who in turn was clueless as to what I was trying to do, they sell stuff but many aren't that technically knowledgeable - Thanks to the "Tech Support Staff" at Micro Center they helped match me up with everything I needed to make everything work properly so I'd have no problems down the road thankfully. So far I've had no problems at all with my computer hardware ,,, knock on wood !  Graphicas Card = matches Power Supply very IMPORTANT !  The Jetranger Lips Sealed Lips Sealed Lips Sealed

I'd be interested in that as well! I have a Nvidia GeForce GT 540M and I have no idea what it comes under when I use the tweak site.
One thing I will add is that for quad cores (8 logical) http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html sets affinity mask to 255 which is pointless if you have acceleration install because SP2 adjusts for multi-cores anyways. What you can do, which I did is change that 255 to 254 which singles out the first core for something else (fibers or something) and that gave me a good boost in my over all frame rates.
