I think a picture would be good here...
...
the only things I installed the day this started happening I installed a shader mod and I installed and messed around with FSWC. any advice?

I don't have FSWC, but since it looks like a water texture problem, that is probably the culprit.

If you shut down your machine and restart it, I think you have to reset FSWC, At least I do. So if it were me, I'd have a closer look at those shader mods.

I've done all of the above, and the shader mod actually worked. I got it off of some post on the AVsim forums.

well, I'm to the point where I can't stand it anymore. Would a "repair" installation work? or do I have to reinstall everything?

It still looks like a water texture problem to me.  You could uninstall FSWC and see if that fixes it.  If not, then try a "repair".  If that does not work, then a reinstall would be about the only option left. 

To me, it looks like the Alpha of the water texture is messed up.  Check your FSX/texture folder for a file called "water.r8".

Also, since I do not have FSWF, double check to see if there is a specific version of FSWC for the version of FSX you are using (Basic, SP1, SP2, Acceleration).  That may make a difference, but I'm shooting in the dark on that.

well, I did a restore of the water.r8 file to a month ago, but no luck Angry I'll try a repair instillation and see if that works
