This is kind of weird and I feel a little bit scary by posting this here..

as Some of you may know I'm and amateur astronomer and telescope maker about   half and hour ago I saw something weird behind Betelgeuse about 5º degree down

I saw a "New Star" to put a name into it about 20 hours New York time ,something that Bright into blue and decay and last about 4 minutes to end in a orange color like Jupiter but with the shine of Venus

I have seen satellites thousands of them  ,I have seen asteroids entries and meteor showers (I been in this all my life) all normal objects like airplanes Helicopters etc
But I have never seen something like I just saw ..the object 2 or 3º degree  moved horizontally a little

I saw it with my naked eyes ,I wasn't doing astronomy ,I just look up in the sky ,I saw something that must not be there ,and stay still watching ,I don't drink alcohol neither do drugs at all

neither believe in UFOs

  my question is very simple
Did any one else saw this?

please don't make fun of me

I have no idea but it sounds cool as heck. When I was about 12 I was outside one summer night, and I saw, in the sky, a large orange object breaking apart with red and orange rings and a trail coming off of it. Though it was a meteor or something breaking up in the atmosphere

It was almost static, and objects entries in our atmosphere doesn't  last 3 or 4 minutes  (That is what precisely weird )

It was approximately iin this sky section and it moves almost the distance I draw
...

You can see Jupiter ahead it bright as much as Jupiter ,blue first and very bright then decay orange

I have never seen anything weird in all my life ,I have spend like the half of my life watching the sky as and astronomer  (amateur and teacher) Huh

My dad was big into astronomy too, to make you feel better, I have seen a crazy light show at night once too when he dragged me outside. I tell ya, seeing something unknown and weird in the sky gets the adrenaline going! To this day I have no idea what it was, all I know is it was big, Muskegon County airport tower had radar contact, and there was another reported sighting half way across the county at the same time.
No one can give anyone any crap for seeing something unknown in the sky until they see something once themselves! Changed my perspective that's for sure.

Could this be anything to do with your sighting?

Found online, although a TV program here in the UK with that professor Brian Cox mentioned somthing about this earlier in the year...

"The earth could soon have a second sun when one of the brightest stars in the night sky explodes into a supernova.
The cosmic phenomenon, which may occur as soon as this year and remain for at least a week or two, is expected to be the most stunning light show in the planet’s history.
According to astronomers, the earth will undoubtedly have a front row seat when the dying red super-giant star, called Betelgeuse, finally blows itself into oblivion. The explosion will be so bright that even though the star in the Orion constellation is 640 light years away, it will still turn night into day and appear like there are two suns in the sky for a few weeks, the Daily Mail reported.
The only real debate is over exactly when it will happen. In stellar terms, Betelgeuse is predicted to crash and burn in the very near future.
Brad Carter, of the University of Southern Queensland in Australia, claimed that the galactic blast could happen before 2012.
“This old star is running out of fuel in its centre,” Dr Carter was quoted as saying. “When this fuel runs out the star will literally collapse upon itself and it will do so very quickly. This is the final hurrah for the star... we’ll have incredible brightness for ... a couple of weeks and then over the coming months it begins to fade and then eventually it will be very hard to see at all.”

I'm no astronomer but I reckon an object moving that distance over a period of 3 to 4 minutes must be close to Earth, possibly a satellite in orbit. I found this which seems to be a reasonable explanation. (Note the date of the sighting - January 2010). http://cs.astronomy.com/asycs/forums/t/44641.aspx

"That is actually more common than you might think in that particular area of the sky.  People are always reporting similar sightings around the Orion Constellation.  There is believe it or not a very good explanation for these sightings.

The celestial equator runs through the Orion constellation and is where a great number of man made satellites reside/orbit.  I can show you numerous pictures I have taken with multiple satellites flying through, sometimes looking as though they are flying in a V formation.
Every now and then, and depending on the time some of these satellites will reflect the Suns light back down toward us. Sometimes the motion is more obvious than others, but if it's coming more directly toward or away from you it might appear to be stationary. Meteors can and have done the same in appearance.  These Satellite Flare ups are often pretty brief, but can last nearly a full minute.
The more common Satellites that you will hear about flaring like this are Iridium Communications Satellites, This is what we call an Iridium Flare(IF), however, any Satellite with a large enough Antenna Array or reflective surface such as solar panels can do the same."

Iridium Flare

Yeah, this is most likely the correct answer. It can also be a jet afterburner at high altitude. It happened to me when I saw some F-16's flying over my area with their ABs on and I was kinda surprised when I realized what the lights were because there was no sound at all...

Up is the way to go.

It was way above the inter atmosphere and I can tell by my humble experience  when is a satellite in 2 seconds (there were few clouds),I have seen them thousands of times when its a satellite when its and airplane

the object flashed a little bit and when from Blue to Orange in a 3 or 4 minutes   bright as much as Venus at maximum bright , this was not a satellite not and airplane, However the most reasonable and my own thoughts that could be something that burns while fall , following a straight trajectory towards my position ,that would explain why was almost static, but it doesn't explain why did it last that long.

At one moment I thought also it could be a gamma burst,or a nova blast  ,which it might be ridiculous ,we all would be death by now, and besides I did my search no reports about it and they don't move like 1 degree toward south also and airplane explosion , none of these makes sense at all...

My stupidity was that latter I remember I had a video camera 3 mts away from full batteries ready to record

I found this which I found interesting please look at the video

http://www.abc15.com/dpp/news/region_phoenix_metro/central_phoenix/reports-of-%2...

I'm not saying its what I saw but there are many similarity

I think this will be the only weird thing in my life ,the funny is I have spend half of my life watching the sky making astronomy with students around  and never seen anything weird ,and yesterday I wasn't doing astronomy I went to my backyard and look the sky which is beautiful this time of the year full of stars...and there it was, the worse I was alone ..   Tongue

  I'll keep looking

First, when it comes to things like this, never let the fear of ridicule stop you from claiming you've seen something unusual. Phenomena like this, be it natural, man-made, or "other" is neither new nor rare. I can't confirm what you saw, but from the way you describe it, it does sound like it may have been a satellite in geo-sync orbit making a position adjustment. (You may have seen it's reflection)

What ever it was/is, I think it's great that you noticed it. I wish more people would take the time to look up. I know I've seen more than my share...
