Wonder why the sim folks cannot make airports look nice like other scenery .  In flying around DFW ( for instance ) , it appears that thousands of busy ants are all over the airport .  Looks fine when on approach or taking off from the selected runway .

Break out the insecticide. Grin

Seriously, don't quite understand what do you mean with "airports covered with ants". Wink

Hello Strategic Retreat ,

If I fly around an airport , as for touch and go landings , etc. I look over on downwind and the runways are not clear at all , but appear to be " running " as if some sort of constant activity is taking place .  I don't know how else to describe the awful trashed constantly busy distorted appearance  .  I e-mailed a computer programmer friend and he said that his also has that appearance even in FSX .  We both have PC's that seem to be adequate .  I would very much like to know if others have noted such ??

I think I know your problem. It's called NO ANTIALIAS. Remember when it happened to me after a useless drivers update. Useless because the old drivers worked fine, I am a knight of the: "if it works leave it the hell alone" and yet that time I had go and mess it up anyway. Tongue

Download Nvidia Inspector, or Ati equivalent, and assign to FS9 at least an antialias of 4X. And I suggest an as high as you can level of Anisotropic Filter without cutting (too much) on the FPS. You'll see the improvements. Wink

SR ,
I got the inspector , but don't know what to do with it . How do you set anti-aliasing to 4X ?  I don't want to overclock as a friend ruined his card doing that . I also do not understand the isotope filter thing ( Ha !! ) ???
I am still trying all sorts of usual settings , but still get a lot of shimmering of DFW and saw tooth appearance of runways .  Highways on the ground so not have that look and would seem the airport should not be distorted either ?? I noticed that scenery does shimmer also , but is not as noticeable .

What's your MIP mapping quality level set at in the sim? (settings-display-hardware tab) Drop it down a little and see if that helps. Generally speaking, 4 should be optimal in most cases.

Hi GroundBound1 ,

I have it set at 4 .  I usually find default settings to work best . I have decided it is just the nature of the sim .
Thanks ,

Sorry for the lateness I answer. Do not talk bad of the Nvidia Inspector, that with the old nHancer you would be weeping right now. Read the instructions (no one thinks about reading the instructions, ever... sometimes I wonder why the coders put them there at all) and assign the FS9 an antialias of 4X.

Do not worry, if you have a decent rig with a decent card by today's standard you don't need to overclock anything (I don't. Last time I overclocked anything was... I had a Sempron 800, I seem to remember, so before the turn of the millennium), even if you go happy with antialias strength. On my Nvidia 9600GT with antialias full blast FS9 slowed down in a barely perceptible way, but there was no real improvements if compared to the 4X.

The Anisotropic Filter too, under FS9, unless you have an old card, brings away little fps.

I'm still using Nhancer at the moment and have not installed Nvidia Inspector because I conquered the old program and everything works fine now, and I'm always a knight of the: "if it works leave it the hell alone", after all. Wink
