The man that got me invested in aviation was involved in an aircraft accident last month in Ohio.  Story as follows:

http://www.newsandsentinel.com/page/content.detail/id/552498/Pilots-in-plane-cra...

What I got from Nick (Austin) was that the engine blew 5 miles from the airport and splattered the canopy with engine oil, as well as caught fire.  He immediately gave the controls to the owner of the aircraft, who brought it down.  Nick was hospitalized with 2nd degree burns to his arms, and the owner received 3rd degree burns to his arms and 2nd degree to his face and head.

FAA officials are still looking into the cause, but from the photos Nick was able to show me, it appears that the seam on the engine casing was ruptured by a large chunk of metal that left a fist-sized hole.  The aircraft, built by Richard Gray in his garage, was reduced to bits that now fit in a pair of boxes.  Luckily, Nick was able to recover his hat . . .  Tongue

Mr. Gray is in stable condition in Columbus, recovering from his burns and is expected to make a full recovery.  Nick is at home now and feeling very well, despite not being able to expose his arms and hands to the sun for the next year.
