No I saved it as a .bmp file probly. I hit the drop down aero and I can't remember if it gave me the option to save it as a DXT3 file or not. All I have to use as a painting program is a program called ACROSOFT PICTURE SUITE. (Not sure on the spelling  Undecided) And windows default paint shop.  Hey...I want to thank you Andy And ofcourse 508 for the Tutorial you have made avail. to me Smiley. Man I REALY want to know how to paint.  It's driving me crazy not knowing how to!  I have read ''this and that'' but it is like a foreign language to me.  So thank you for your help on this Gentlemen.

I highly doubt the Acrosoft one will have DXT3, and I KNOW the defualt paint program doesn't.  You MUST do it as a DXT1 or DXT3. (I'm not sure about DXT5, never tried it before, and I've heard you have to do other things for .dds, so just go with DXT3.  that way you can add the shiny stuff Wink )
Here's a link to how to download DXTbmp. The actual download button is at the VERY BOTTOM of the page, and I'm pretty sure you can figure out how to do the install.

Hi Blaze, you don't have to buy Paint Shop to repaint planes for FS. You can get one of the free ones. The two best ones are Paint.NET & GIMP. I recommend Paint.NET because it's easier to use.

If you need any help just start a new topic & Club & will try and help. Smiley

That's cool Andy thank you for the hookup.  I'm going to Paint.Net right now Smiley.  When I get my plane painting thing of and running, one of the first things I want to work on is some Rock & Roll planes.  I haven't seen to many of those around (If Any)          -Blaze-

Don't use DXT1 if you want an alpha channel.  DXT3 .dds is pretty much the default texture format for FSX, and usually worth using unless you want less compression and more detail.

LOL That's funny 508.  Thank you for the hookup Smiley Hey!..I had a ''BAD'' thing that turned out to be a ''GOOD'' thing happen to me last night, Check this out, I tryed to better my virtual memory so I could Sim alittle better. WELL!..I clicked something I should'nt have and POOF! no more computer! The funny thing is, when that happend, the only thing I was worryed about was loosing ''ALL'' the work I did to the planes. Cause I do alot of cleaning up the gauges and moding. the sounds and stuff like that. It's just something I like to do. You know "Tweeking".  You know how long that stuff takes! BUT..luck would have it that I parked FS9 and all the other files for FS9 on the Drive ''D'' partition, I only chose to recover Drive ''C'' where the goof happend. THANK GOD I MADE THAT 10 DISK WIDOWS BACKUP!!! so..short story long..the ''GOOD'' part is now Windows is running Tip-Top and I chose to ''Take The RED Pill Instead Of The BLUE One'' And the memory is as Tip-Top as it can get.  Oh yeah...On the .DXT thing I downloaded 'Paintshop Pro' X4 the other day and it did'nt include the .DXT option in the save window Undecided  What Gives?

Use DXTBmp from Club508's link to convert texture formats.

Just a FYI...I like really, really stunk trying to do repaints until I got these 2 programs and watched 1 video on youtube... I find out after watching this and using the 2 programs, I'm actually pretty good and have made a few repaints for some members here and on other sites.

Check this out, you need....

Paint.net http://www.getpaint.net/
and
DXTBmp http://www.softpedia...rs/DXTBmp.shtml

then watch this video

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TVcGUFPfsF0&feature=player_embedded

If you use these 2 programs, both free by the way, and watch the video pausing it and doing it at the same time you'll understand really quick how it works..I was amazed.

I hope this helps you some, good luck with the repaints...

Cheers
Ari
