reciently I have been fooling around with fsx and other programs via task manager, and ive noticed that FSX mainly utilizes only 1 core in my dual core computer.

So with that in mind, I made all programs, and windows to use only the second core, and let fsx use both cores.

doing so has boosted my fps by at least 2-3 more fps average..

Now seeing that was a sucess, I am wondering how I can set up the computer to use the second core for all programs (excluding games) by defualt, so I dont have to switch it manually every time I start up the computer..

its been a while since ive done anything like this and I dont remember how to do it..

So how can I make programs use ONLY 2nd core by defualt?

First you need to install either Acceleration (if you have it) or the freeware patches SP1 and SP2, which will enable FSX to use all the cores of a multi-core CPU.
Then in the task monitor, you can modify the affinity of FSX.exe to force it to run on core1 only by deactivating the core0, then you activate the core0 again. The game graphic engine (which determines the FPS) will now run on core1, which is free of all the windows processes Wink

Stephane, is there any way to make the assignments permanent, or am I going to have to change it every time I fire up FSX?

I have an 8 core and found that it works best if I put FSX on #1, #3, & #5, while FSWidgets is on #4 & #6, with TrackIR on #7. I left FRAPS on all 8.

...
If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

So a few days ago when these forums were down, I was initally dissapointed, but it seemed to be a blessing in disguise for me..

I was over at the avsim forums, and I learned some things that increased my FSX peformance to almost double what it was before.. And Blurries? they are history for me..

One of the best tweaks that I added to the fsx.cfg
[JOBSCHEDULER]
affinitymask=3

adding that to the fsx.cfg alone increased fsx's peformance at least 50% for me. It made fsx use both cores in my dual core to the max, instead of it just using 1 core and rarely using core 2..

Before tweaking I wouldn't even considor flying low to the ground VFR, but now it runs like a dream and looks amazing with great FPS, as high as 25-30fps, (at least 10 at lower altitudes) from the 3fps I was used to.

Even flying over the 10 meter mesh that I downloaded from here gets at least 8-10 fps with the mesh LOD at 19m (http://simviation.com/1/browse-Terrain+Mesh-64-1)

The next thing was I put fsx.cfg through this website --
http://www.venetubo.com/fsx.html

That adds quite a few tewaks for autogen, and helps fight those damned blurries, so now I can fly at 200kias at treetop level and still have crisp clear textures, and the autogen doesnt dissapear at all, it loads perfectly fine atleast 2-3 miles infront of me..

heres the topic that I learned all these amazing tweaks at incase you are intrested.
http://forum.avsim.net/topic/346991-fsx-and-cpu-useage/

I am surprised that nobody here at simv has ever pointed out those tweaks, and that is why I am here now spreading the word!

Hope this can help you too!
cheers for now, mike
