Started in 1997, this finnish summer event has been going on for ten years already. What began as funny thing to do with small group of friends is now transformed into much larger event. This year’s Kaljakellunta had hundreds boats or other floating things.
Kaljakellunta or Beer floating is about beer (mainly drinking it) and floating downstream in a river, using a boat, raft or almost anything that floats. There is no official organization, no cost to participate and it’s open for everyone.
In the nanny state of the free and the home of the brave the cops would shut this down long before it ever started.
A bad day at golf is better than a good day at work.

I don't even get how people like Beer. It stinks
. But I guess everyone has their preferences
.

Most people think that flying a plane is dangerous, except pilots because they know how easy it is.
Arguing with a pilot is like wrestling with a pig in the mud, after a while you begin to think the pig likes it.

Proper beer is rather alright! I'm a vodka, cider and rum person myself. Whatever floats your boat!

Everyone's first beer tastes horrible.
The second one, not so bad.
The third, you could learn to like it,
4 - 10,000 they go down real smooth.

True. But if you look at the accident records for fatal and injurious boating accidents involving alcohol, it begins to make sense, just like making drunk driving illegal.
If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

Maybe

, but was put in a headlock when messing around; I was dizzy and didn't realize I was moving both of us until we went through the bathroom door and my fellow cohort immediately released me when we smashed the metal shower stall (Dad was not happy!). To alleviate the taste of the beer, I'd added whiskey to the beer. It didn't help... was bitter, don't like bitter.

Don't go down at all... I'm sure they're still bitter, don't like bitter.

In honor of the grandmother who died before my birth, I did learn to drink, not so much at a time, her favorite soft drink... how much Moxie do you have?

According to your profile you're 13. Beer is an acquired taste. It's supposed to taste horrible until you're old enough to appreciate it.
At least, that's how it used to be. The recent trend for 'alcopops' was started by the manufacturers to encourage younger people to drink alcohol & therefore increase their profits.

Then I must avoid alcohol at all costs when I turn 18.
.
But I seriously cannot stand it

Yep. I'm WAY underage. I don't even know why I'm thinking about it
But I NEVER want to drink it. From what I've read and Learned is It ruins lives and I simply do not want to risk that. But I'd much rather spend the money on a good white chocolate. Cheers.

We do something similar here, we float down rivers on tubes with floating coolers full of beer. Best part about it (besides the beer of course) is if you gotta pee, well, you know

Stupid is as stupid does though....according to this
article
there have been zero (0) injuries or fatalities in the entire history of this event. The laws here against floating while drinking are purely taxation by citation
It really comes down to common sense......operate a high speed ski boat while intoxicated....bad idea.....float down the river on an inner tube with a couple beers....who could possibly be hurt ????
With the absence of common sense.....we have legislation
"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth and danced the skies on laughter silvered wings. Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun split clouds.....and done a hundred things you have never dreamed of.....wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there, I've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.
Up, up the long, delerious, burning blue I've topped the wind swept heights with easy grace where never Lark, nor even Eagle flew. While with silent lifting of mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of god"

Yay!!!!....more laws/regulations to protect people from themselves........maybe they could just assign someone to hold our hands everywhere we go

I have taken full advantage of the UK's laws and I have tried drink since I was 5 years old. I still love Stella
alcopops taste ridiculous, and that's after much observation as an 18 year old. Well mixed spirits, beer and real ales are the way forward
