The most recent in the interminable stream of Vista "upgrades" somehow trashed my vid drivers (system restarted in 800x600 with generic vga drivers; tried to reinstall the drivers, Vista said the optimum drivers were installed; device manager said the vid card was disabled "code 43"). So I removed the vid drivers, did the ccleaner and drive sweeper bit, downloaded and installed new drivers ...but the CCC wouldn't run and I had to track down and install an extra dll to get ATi Tray Tools to function (suggestions for getting CCC working range from using newer or older drivers to registry edits to uninstalling everything, installing CCC only, then installing drivers).
So, my question harks back to the old discussion of running primarily older applications with a newer vid card - should I get the newest drivers available or select older ones which might be more compatible?
System is Vista 32 SP2 with HD5670, Athlon 2.8g dual core, 2gig RAM. Primary resource hogs are FS9, GTR2, Richard Burns Rally, and Morrowind.
