I'm finding that with most all of the Nor Cal packs that they crash the program when the aircraft is selected to "fly".  This has happened to the Mil 24 Hind pack and the F-86 pack.

And if support is requested they say they are out of bussiness. Should there be any downloads that don't have anyone to contact with issues???

If anyone has any info. on this please post it.

Thanks very much

I have nearly all of them in my sim.

Can you be specific about a particular example?

Here for example is the Fairchild Provider chosen at random right now. Can pick no fault with it at all -- brilliant

Found here

Like I said -- can you be specific about a particular file and where you found it because it is certainly not a general issue

I have just tried the F-86 found here

...

...

Again -- another great addition for FSX.

Grin If that were the case all FS libraries would probabkly delete 90% of their content. Enthusiasts come and go all the time. Developers close up shop. Thankfully their work is still avaiable for download and forums like this exist to get support.

(Many developers such as the great Kirk Olssen specifically avoided any contact details from the word go )

All Nor Cal Prop Club basically did was slap a thumbnail into a FS9, and some times a few other tweaks, and called it "fixed", so it would work in FSX.  They also usually, without the consent of the original add-on authors.  Even so, most of their "conversions" should "work" without causing FSX to crash.  I had a lot of FS9 add-ons on my old PC, including a few Nor Cal "conversions", and didn't have too many that caused FSX to crash.

It is also true that Nor Cal has rolled up their welcome mat and evaporated.  Even if they were still around, I doubt they would have been much help.

Personally, If I see the "Presented by Nor Cal Prop Club" in the download discription, I skip it,unless it's something I *really* want, but then I would look for the original FS9 add-on and do my own modifications if any are needed.

Thanks for the input.  To be specific, the downloads go normally up till the time I click on "fly now" at which time the sim crashes and then reloads.  I have many downloads from 2003 on and this problem is the first to act this way.

I dowloaded the F-86 you had shown as an example and it did the same thing, crashed on "fly now"

I remember this happining a while back too, on a Ju88 Stuka.
I agree all sims by Nor Cal are outstanding in quality and it would be desirable if I could get them to work.

Thanks again

I suggest you try removing all of them and see if you still get any crashes.

The if you don't -- try adding just one. Then if the crashes start again I can take a close look at the files to see if they give any clue as to why they are crashing on you.

After Nor cal sims removed attempted to reinstall M1 24 Hind.  At the point of selecting "fly" nothing happens, normally the screen flashes a couple of times then the Information loading box appears.  This does not happen, only after a short delay  FXS reloads.

Prior to the test I downloaded  other sims which worked just fine. It still might be just a coincidence but it only applys to Nor Cal upgrades.

Thanks for any followup.

The problem may be, as it was in FS2004, the absence of 'gaugesound.dll' required by some .gau gauge files.

I found this to be the case when I installed the F86 that Pete pointed to.

You can find the file here, in the 'FS2004 Stratojet Excalibur Update', or the FS2004 Edgley Optica 'Update'-http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=gaugesound.dll&categoryId=.

Copy 'gaugesound.dll' to your main FSX folder and see if that solves the problem.

Now that was a good call, the addition of the gaugesound.dll cleared the problem of crashing when selecting fly now with Nor Cal sims.  I do appreciate this assistance as these are normally excellent add ons.

Thanks again
