After seeing Greg's recent pics of his Twin otter, i reallised i hadnt flown this great aircraft in some time!.. and thought to myself, where better to fly it than the great Vashon Island freeware scenery... short, dangerous, tree-lined strips?? ...perfect!!

those trees on the left look awfully close...

...

gently teasing the engines up to full wack!... starting to roll...

...

up, up, and away! gorgeous weather for flying... and the weatherman said it was gonna rain.

...

Time to lower flaps and look for WA69...

...

Found it!!!    ....starting to get a bit breezy  Undecided

...

I have no intention of touch and go's.... im staying for lunch, and possibly supper!!

...

thanks for looking, and check out part 2 here

Thank you Doug!

i really enjoy the small trip from 2S1 to WA69 and back again, great scenery and a little challenging depending on what your flying!

on a side note:

do you think a C130 would do it? I dont think it'd manage the take-off.... Back in ten... will post the results!

Hi Deano

I was never checked out in the C130.  Flew it several times as a coutesy from the crew.  Put a good number of hours in the real Herc Sim...definitely nothing like a table top home computer flight simulator... Grin

The question you ask would depend on several things:
-the experience of the crew on type
-weight of the aircraft
-field condition (is the grass wet?)
-winds

There are a lot of factors to take into account.

Sorry but that is the best answer I can come up with.

once again, thanks for your reply. maybe one day our home flight sim will be detailed enough to include the moisture level of the grass Shocked that would be awsome!!

I took the courtesy of trying it in the sim...

...

personally i wasnt sure about taking off... and i think this next pic gives you a sense of the challenge ahead...

...

I hit the trees way before i was able to get the aircraft into the air!!

maybe with RATO and flying on fumes, with a shipment of feather duvets, it might be possible!  Grin

back to the drawing board for me!!

thank you again for your reply, much appreciated!!

(EDIT TO ADD: I reckon i could land there  Tongue )

thanks for the comments guys!!

i re-tried the herc take-off... 10% fuel, no cargo, even the pilots had been dieting  Grin

and i crashed into thin air! think it might be a boundary box issue somewhere either on the aircraft or airfeild  Undecided

i reckon i could have made it!

there is also a RATO switch in the cockpit, but i cant seem to activate it? it appears clicakble but I cant get the protective red cover thingy off it!
