Hello all.
Ever since I installed FS9 on my new PC I have been aware that my water textures are a little "tropical". I hope the screen shots will explain what I mean. The first is a shot of the Waikato carrier group and the difference between the wake of the ships and the surounding water is easy to see. The second shot is over the Thames here in the UK and it looks more like the Mediterranean rather than being the muddy brown we know and love.
This was never a problem on my graphically challenged old PC and has been noticable since day one of the new install.

...

...

Any help would be much appreciated.

OK, as things are a bit slow around here I thought I'd bump this back up to see if anyone has any ideas?

Thanks Cap.
I was begining to feel very lonely.
Strange thing is that since I changed my "Water effects to None" the colours seem to have improved a bit with no loss of any effects that I have noticed.
The wonderfull world of Flight sim!

Cheers.

The carrier has a wake texture with it & in order to make some less like this one a couple of years ago, I opened them the DTXBMP & ran them through paint.  It took a lot of repainting before I got an acceptable result.  I've moved on to Golden Wings 3 & don't have ships or boats except statics.....

Thanks Gypsymoth.
What seems strange to me is that someone who has developed a really good and complex piece of add-on scenery would get the wake textures so badly wrong?

Cheers.

Hi Zaphod,

Have you got Real Environment?  If so try the Aqua pro Dark textures for the water colour.

Absolutely....nice model mucked up by a ghastly wake.
I see Opa here & elsewhere has an effects package that will put a moving wake behind your vessel.   I'm going to try his smoke offering on the airfield power plants
I putting into my WW2 airfields......fingers crossed..... Roll Eyes  I founf it on Avsim I think it was in 2004 scenery objects......

The problem with the RE tip is you change all the water effects to accomodate a dodgy wake.

The smoke effects package mentioned by Ops is one by Ron Jeffers.  I've follwed the instructions to the letter but none of the smoke effects show.......

The wake effect procedure will work on static ships which have no wake built into the model - but will not mask any "wake" which is a part of the model as is the case with the pictured ship in the earlier post.

If anyone has questions or problems with the smoke or wake procedure, please send me an e-mail and I will try to assist.

My address is in both tutorial packages.

Hi Dave....I'm going to email you about adding some AI boats to go round Islay & between other Scottish Islands....I have your old Puget Sound Ferries short tutorial but I still need clarification about 1 or 2 things....due to the hard drive crash I lost the more detailed help you gave me a couple of years ago & my memory is dimmer.... Embarrassed

I was just on another forum suggesting to someone else about how to fix their water that they werent happy with..... rather than me hunting down the links again I will  just give you the link to what I said  http://combatace.com/topic/62950-fs9-green-lakes-vs-blue-lakes/  give it a try and let me know if you like it...... I'm pretty sure you will find it to be a dramatic improvement  Wink
