The Ling-Temco-Vought A-7 Corsair II is a carrier-based subsonic light attack aircraft introduced to replace the United States Navy's A-4 Skyhawk, initially entering service during the Vietnam War.
The Corsair was later adopted by the United States Air Force, to include the Air National Guard, to replace the A-1 Skyraider, F-100 Super Sabre and F-105 Thunderchief. The aircraft was also exported to Greece in the 1970s, and Portugal and Thailand in the late 1980s.
The A-7 airframe design was based on the successful supersonic F-8 Crusader produced by Chance Vought. It was one of the first combat aircraft to feature a head-up display (HUD), an inertial navigation system (INS), and a turbofan engine.

"Oh! I have slipped the surly bonds of Earth and danced the skies on laughter silvered wings. Sunward I've climbed and joined the tumbling mirth of sun split clouds.....and done a hundred things you have never dreamed of.....wheeled and soared and swung high in the sunlit silence. Hovering there, I've chased the shouting wind along and flung my eager craft through footless halls of air.

Up, up the long, delerious, burning blue I've topped the wind swept heights with easy grace where never Lark, nor even Eagle flew. While with silent lifting of mind I've trod the high untrespassed sanctity of space, put out my hand and touched the face of god"

Think opposite!  Cheesy

After the upramp section, it's about a dozen feet or so of round part to the blades.

Positioning was congruous with the aspect of the aircraft. Wink

Congruous! My bigword of the day:http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/congruous (see 1a [or b, actually 2 works also]!)

(EDIT! minutes later when I thought of it)

Entering into the realm of T.M.I., the "No Step" thingie betwixt the engines on an A-10..... http://www.simviation.com/phpupload/uploads/1297329675.jpg ....means 'No Damn Thing Else Either'!!! Grin

Sorry bud, din't mean to 'jack your thread, but them memory lane trips just sorta get me nostalgic. Tongue Cry Tongue

This aircraft brings back memories. Use to work on them back in my Navy days. Had to slide into the intake on your back and wiggle all the way down it to do maintenance on some parts of the engine. Not for one with claustrophobia.  Grin

Thanks Bob. This aircraft seems to bring back the memories around here Wink
I dont think "claustrophobia" is the word that U4EA would use to describe the feeling he gets inside the intake of an A-7 Grin Grin Grin
From what I hear, there was some maintenance going on....but, I don't think the aircraft was benefiting from it at all Wink

She: 5'3", about a buck-five.  Me: 5'9", buck-sixty. I reckon it would've been claustrophobic if'n there wern't, shall we say, "distractions".
