Hi!
I decided to revisit CFS2 in after many years. I need some advise on how to fully convert my CFS2 into WWII European theater. Perhaps there is a cumulative conversion addon of some sort? I just see a lot of missions and campaigns for ETO, but they don't have everything necessary included. Not even download links or a simple list of the mods required:(
Also, what are the most recommended mods for the PTO default install?

Welcome back, Dornil!   Cool

Man, tallk about a loaded question/questions.   Grin

There are now so many great European addons that it just depends on how much detail you want to get into.  So I just don't know exactly where to begin. I know, I know...you're just looking for a quick, no effort solution to a complex set of questions. Roll Eyes

While I'm trying to think of where to start, maybe other members are ready with some suggestions.   CFS2 has come so far in the last few years.  Undecided

Sure, first I am going for a simpliest solution:)
As for detail level - as high as possible, at least the same as the stock PTO.
Will really appreciate assistance!

OK, Dornil, here are my thoughts:

- There is no such thing as a cumulative European Theatre package the includes everything.  It would be too big and too complex for anyone to incorporate all the stuff available, so you're stuck with the individual Campaign and Scenery packages.  Cry

-  The available downloads have become so detailed that folks are using multiple installs of CFS2, each dedicated to a specific theatre....Pacific, Europe, North Africa, Korea, etc.   Smiley

- I've been around CFS2 since the beginning, and I haven't seen a campaign package that included everything you needed (including the scenery) since our own Fox Four Korean Campaigns.   Most will provide links to needed downloads. As good a place to start as any is with the European campaigns by Andrew Talbot that are found in the CFS2/Missions-Campaigns section.  They are relatively new and he is a detail-oriented and creative writer who includes a long and complete list of needed downloads and the links to them. I counted at least 45 in one of his packages.

NOTE: You should be using the expanded Country.CFG file available at the Microsoft's CFS2 Homepage:
http://www.microsoft.com/games/combatfs2/

- There are also just tons of individual scenery packs available for Europe, but you have to be careful as some of those may interfere with the scenery specified in a particular campaign download.   For that reason, everything Fox Four produced was specific to one scenery package for all campaigns...the McClleland's Far East.

Aside for those suggestions, I can't really add much.  Lips Sealed  Hope it helps get you off in the right direction.  Wink

Thank you very much for recommendations.
I just thought that there is something similar to MAW or OFF for CFS2. Oh well...
Decided to start with Andrew Talbot's "Battle for Europe"; already encountered some problems - one of the aircraft download link is missing so far (Fw-190A-5).

About PTO: what would you recommend to install?
Is there a replacement for gunsights in VC for more realistic ones?
Which is the best available J7W1 model?

That's the problem with that type of download file.....links go bad all too soon.   HOWEVER, email Andrew and he'll send you the aircraft.

With the exception of some small mods to aircraft, I fly the Pacific totally stock....less than 25% of CFS2 owners have ever completed the stock campaigns from both sides.  REMEMBER, the stock campaigns are DYNAMIC campaigns, which means that they tend to turnout differently each time you fly them.  They take different paths depending on your performance.

Is there a replacement for gunsights in VC for more realistic ones?

There are dozens of them out there in the Panels downloads section.  Everyone has different tastes.

Which is the best available J7W1 model?

I have only seen one in CFS2, but then I'm mostly a Korean War fan.   Find it here:
http://simviation.com/1/search?submit=1&keywords=CFS2+J7W1&x=19&y=15   There have to be a few more if you do a SEARCH at the other sites.

And I'm certain that you will find some panels in the Panels download sections as well.

You really do need to get out there and explore the various databases.   There is just so much out there.  Cheesy

Dornil:

Explore the links in the 'sticky' thread at the top of the page in this forum on links to CFS2 sites.   Many of those links are now dead, but a heck of a lot are still working and are full of great stuff.   Smiley

BUT, if you really want to have some fun with a series of campaigns that are totally self-contained, go to the Fox (link below in my signature) Four site and fly the four Korean Campaigns......though jet combat is a bit challenging because of the speeds, but you'll learn what a speedbrake is for.  Grin ***

***Shameless plug for Fox Four Korea.  But we are fair, balanced and unafraid.   Grin

PS The Ocean Fury campaign does feature the ultimate prop fighter as the player aircraft...the Sea Fury.  And is it a sweet, sweet airplane.  Cheesy
