I am going to be able to get a new aircraft for FSX but I can't decide which one to get. Here are the aircraft that I am going to chose from:
A2A/Shockwave: B-17 Flying Fortress,
Captain Sim: C-130 X-Perience Base pack(I will get the Expansions Later),
and, Vertigo Studios: F-8F Bearcat.
With the B-17, How realistic is it? How is the Sound? I really want a B-17, but I want one that is as realistic as it get for FSX.
With the C-130, I am really debating this one because there are a lot of reviews for it but the reviews are kind of split in half between it is an awesome aircraft and it is an awful aircraft. I would love to get a C-130 because i think it is an awesome aircraft and with the expansion packs you get every single type of C-130 ever made.
With the Bearcat, This is really up on my list. It says the Guns work and the rockets can be fired. It also says the Guns and missiles have sound effects.
If you have any advice, I would greatly appreciate it.
The two I want most are the B-17 and the C-130.

I'd go for the C130 package or the B17 either of those are money well spent
There are two types of aeroplane, Spitfires and everything else that wishes it was a Spitfire!

That is what I was thinking.
I really want both, but I am going to have to wait.
Which one is better, the C-130 package w/expansions or the B-17?

It is too close to call! Depends on your aviation preference... warbird or modern?

"Help me chose" threads are my very favorite!
I don't think its even close. I would doubt that the Bearcat or the C-130 have
anywhere near
the level of sophistication, realism, immersion, etc compared to the A2A B-17, with Accusim. A2A is the gold standard of pistons, imo. The B-17 is in a class by itself. I've never seen a bad word written about it, although I have seen many threads concerned with the operation of the C-130, including user mods in attempts to make its flight model more accurate. I'm skeptical of turboprops in general for MSFS, because I've heard many times over that the turboprop model in FSX is not accurate (PMDG apparently had to do a bunch of stuff behind the scenes to create a workable model for its Jetstream, and I would doubt that Captain Sim brought the same attention to bear on the issue).
I should put out the following disclaimer that I don't own any of the planes you listed, since warbirds seem a little out of place to me in FSX (I recently got a pby though). My coments are based on my experience with other Accusim products such as the Boeing 377. The B-17 is the next evolution of Accusim beyond that, so I would bet on the B-17 without hesitation.
With the B-17, they have taken Accusim to the level at which they are monitoring the wear and tear of individual components of individual engine cylinders, and you can review it after the flight! I might have to get this one myself, since I enjoy learning about these old planes as much as I do flying them...its kind of like getting a good book, that has the bonus of being interactive.
Since you are a Spitfire fan, you should
also
know that A2A has developed a plug-and-play model of the Rolls Royce Merlin engine that will be used for their Accusim Spit, and then I suppose for their P-51 as well. You should visit their site and see what they are up to, as I am not current on all the relavant details.

I have all three. Between the B17 and C130, without hesitation my vote is for the B17 (with Accusim!). The C130 is a visually pleasing model, but you won't get the "aircraft management" you need to do with the B17. The Bearcat is also very nice, but it's in a different class, it's a fighter
My vote is B17! And also, Captain Sim will have another $9.99 sale "everything goes" in few months, so get the C130 then

I also have all three. And pfevrier hit the nail squarely on the head. Now I prefer to fly the Bearcat, I just like single engines best, then twins. I prefer to jump in, take off, and have as much maneuverability as possible. But
if you are looking for realism, the B-17 wins hands down. Nothing wrong with the C-130, it is a great model, they all are. It's just that the B-17 is the most realistic of the three, and looks the most impressive. But when it
comes to sound, it's a tie between the B-17 and Bearcat.
If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.
