Thai09's FaceTrackNoIR thread in Flight Simulator X caused me to start thinking about TrackIR again. I counted my pennies left from my COLA after the Iris sale and decided it was a worthwhile purchase. I decided correctly
this time. I have been refraining from looking around in VC mode much due to the difficulty of re-centering with my glitchy hat switch. It's smooth enough in exterior view, but not in VC. I ordered from Amazon several
days ago and it did not ship until yesterday. I ordered stating normal ground shipping, but for reasons unknown to me they gave me a free upgrade to next day and it came today. It did not take long to set it up and once I
found the FSX preset it worked perfectly. It takes a little getting used to and the speed settings in the software do not accurately depict what they will be in the sim. It moves much slower and choppier in the software. In the
sim, it moves smoothly and almost too quickly at times. But that is adjustable and I just need some time to find the sweet spot. I give it *****, and will spend
much
more time in the VC now. I am in no way belittling
Thai09's post, nor the comments from others. If you already have a web cam, FaceTrackNoIR may be your best bet. But I did not have a web cam and have no use for one and chose to spend my money on TrackIR.
But I do owe Thai09 thanks for getting me to thinking about it again.
If God intended aircraft engines to have horizontally opposed engines, Pratt and Whitney would have made them that way.

That's good to hear, Larry. I just got, in the mail.. my matrox dualhead2go, but I need another screen yet. TrackiR on multiple screens must be fantastic!
Flying with twins is a lot of fun..

Great Steve. I wouldn't know, I use my second screen only for FSWidgets Map and looking at manuals while trying to start a new model.
I've never figured out how to use it for FSX, but without a third one on the right, I don't think it would be that great. My dream system would have one on each side, a smaller one just above for the map, and a huge one on the wall visible just above the map.

I give it *****,
After pondering, I'm assuming this means five stars and not a dirty word
. Does this thing strap to your head or do you wear a baseball cap?

On the downside, you do have to wear the sensors usually on headphones or a hat.

Baseball cap?
Now how come I didn't think of that. Those staples in my forehead hurt.
Now that I have gotten my smart a$$ comment out of the way, on with the real answer. It will clip on a cap or a headset, or so they say. I don't have a headset, so I'm not sure about that, but any baseball type cap will do. I'm using the one that says Blue Angels on it, but I really want one with the SimV logo.
And I might have to change those five stars to four after using it a little more. For me, it is not quite as maneuverable in exterior view as the hat switch. And it is a little aggravating to pause the sim, switch to the TrackIR
software and hit F9 and go back to the sim for exterior and the reverse for switching back to TrackIR, especially if you switch back and forth much.

Not true, you can use staples.

As long as you use 9/16 or less, shouldn't penetrate to anything too precious
. Believe I'll save my money for Mathias's "Taifun".

You shouldn't need to do this....with my trackIR I just have to hit F9 and the hat switch is back in action....then when I go back into the VC I just hit F9 again and it's trackIR time

I thought I had to go back to the TrackIR software before hitting F9. I'll try it your way. Thanks for the heads up.
Edited:
Works like a charm. Thanks.
I was beginning to regret the purchase, but not now.
