I have several F-14 models (A, B, D) in my hangar from various authors. One of them is set up so that when you deploy the speedbrakes, it's supposed to simulate landing on a carrier. How do I dial the brakes back to something much more realistic? I have no idea what I'm looking for, so here's the info from the one I'm interested in editing.

if i am right on this, in the [airplane geometry] section...

spoiler_limit=1000

play around with this number, lower number may mean less effective spoilers/speed breaks.



I personaly fly a combination of F14D rev 3, 4, Final412. i also took the afterburners from the KBT Designs FA-18 and put them on the F14 so that the burners would have a "flickering" effect to them.  I can package up the needed files, and tell you how to install them.  Makes the F14 come a little bit more alive in my opinion.

I love all three versions. Always wanted to be assigned to a Tomcat (and C-130) squadron, but I only got to work on them on a Transient Line while I was in.

I use the final412 as well. They're all just fun to play with, and I'm strongly oriented towards the feet-wet side of things. If you're willing to package the stuff, I'll gladly accept it with much gratitude!

The speed brake slamming me from 400 kts to less than 40 in a few seconds is just frustrating, ESPECIALLY when trying to bleed off energy while in the pattern.

I knocked the spoiler limit down to 5. It's considerably more realistic, but still a bit off. I can sling the paddles out, and it'll slow me to about 130 knots. This works well for final approach or in the low pattern with full flaps coming out to augment control. At high subsonic Mach numbers (above .80 or so), deploying the spoilers is still a pretty rough eyeballs-out condition, but it comes on a little slower, and will still drop you back to about 130 kts. Definitely a much more believable deceleration though. Thanks for the help!

keep in mind that the speed break on the F14, is mainly used for "Emergency stopping power" to basically take you all the way down to 0 kias NOW!!! not just slowly slow you down.  The point of the speed breaks, are to help bleed off speed as fast as possible and make your head hit the dash board.

It's not nearly that strong though. 60,000 lbs of Tomcat can't really be slowed that much by 25-30 square feet of barn door sticking out in the breeze....unless you take what Tom Cruise said seriously.. "I'll hit the brakes, and he'll fly right by."
