I'm not sure if this is where I should be posting this but anyway. My question is: Is there a way to make FS9 aircraft work in FSX? Like a program or something that converts the aircraft to FSX.

ALL fs2004 should work in FSX in fact 80% of the freeware models available are made using FS9-SDK ,many are old models from FS9 ,all great posky models are in FS9 format ,just put the airplane in the aircraft folder like in FS9  Wink

and if they don't work is because you haven't installed service pack 2 which was release the same year FSX came out (I assume you have SP2)

Most FS9 add-ons work in FSX.  The only issues are usually guages that were made for FS98 or earlier, the "sound.cft" in the "sound" folder aliased to an FS9 aircraft that's not in FSX.

The gauge problem can be cured by swapping in a different FSX panel folder, or editing the Panel .cfg and substituting FSX gauges, or gauges from other FS9 panels that do work.

The sound problem can be cured by editing the sound .cfg so that it's aliased to any FSX aircraft.

The other minor issue is adding a small .jpg to the texture folder for the "Thumbnail" seen in the selection panel.

Some FS9 add-ons are also imports from FS8, and it's hit or miss on working in FSX.

There is no "converter program", just install it and see if it works, and if you need to, tweak what doesn't. (Some times, an incompatible sound or panel will cause the add-on not to show up at all, so if the add-on does not show up for selection at all, renane those two filders in the aircraft's filder, and swap any sound or panel in from a default aircraft and then see if it shows).

Any particular add-on in mind?

Actually I do have an Add-on in mind. It's the "FS2004 Boeing B-29B Superfortress Base pack".

I tried what you suggested and it still isn't working. The plane shows up on the list of airplanes I have for the game but when I click to change the aircraft, it says, something about not being able to load a visual image of the aircraft.

I've had this problem with a number of aircraft. The best thing to do is find the aircraft for FSX, if it is available. Flightsim.com, SimV, AvSim, and any other add-ons sites usually have what you want. Post the FSX B-29 in the aircraft wanted section, and I'll help you out if I can.  Smiley

I went outside once. The graphics weren't all that great.

I just Dl'd and installed it, and it shows up, but has a lot of gauge incompatabilities. No prop disks, and it does not appear to be showing the interior and landing gear testures (the gear is there, but appear black, not shiny metal)

I'm running with FSX SP1 installed, but not SP2.  That *may* make a difference. Have you installed Service packs 1 and/or 2?

Also, a few other minor "problems" (Not really "problems", since it was not designed for FSX) are the white engine smoke needs to be re-alingned in the smokesystem's X, Y, Z, which is another frequent thing that needs to be tweaked.

Hi,

I like the idea of trying this, but I thought I'd ask your advice before trying it. Last time I done somthing to the aircraft folder I had to reinstall fsx  Sad

Do I just copy the aircraft folder from fs9 to fsx's one?
I hope its that simple!

Hope you can help,

Ray

Thanks Boikat,

It seemed to work, like you said there are a couple of little issues but the main part is that its working in fsx!
