http://www.cbc.ca/canada/story/2010/11/18/canada-jet-crash.html?ref=rssA CF-18 crashed late Wednesday night while approaching Cold Lake, returning from a training mission. Capt. Darren Blakie of 409 Tactical Fighter Squadron ejected from the Hornet about 13 km north of CFB Cold Lake. Obviouslly, nobody knows why he ejected yet, as the investigation has just started.
Capt. Blakie spent a couple hours in the cold before being picked up by a SAR chopper from Cold Lake. Apparently he was just getting a fire going, and signaled the chopper with a flare. The temperature was -22C with the wind chill! He has no reported injuries.
This is the 2nd CF-18 crash this year, after the 2010 Demo jet crashed during a practice for the Lethbridge Airshow in July.
Good to hear that he's ok...
