I was going to pass comment on this story, but I really cant be bothered. Sensationalist ignorance. Sometimes it can be a real drag working in an industry that the media does its best to shoot down at every turn, but after all good news never sells. I have been working on aircraft for the last 24 years. I have seen it, done it and done it all again, but my mother in law is still the most knowledgeable person on the planet when it comes to aircraft and aircraft safety  Roll Eyes Roll Eyes Preserve me from people who are armed with just enough information to be stupid and still not realise  Undecided

Posted mostly because its the A380.
Its a big mama, but mostly because its new.
Quantas has grounded all their 380's while this is investigated.
Such things can start a bad rep about a plane.

A380 is and always will be my favorite commercial plane out there. Good to know Qantas grounded all A380's and good on the captain with a calm message  Cool

My post was not aimed in any way at what you had posted. It was a general remark about the press coverage and of the instant expert that lives around the corner to me. I was going to post the story myself earlier in the day, but after reading all the news stories, I really could not be bothered. I had spend most to the day trying to convince my mother in law that the aircraft was not seconds from crashing etc etc. It is significant only due to the aircraft that it is. Had it been a 747, then it would not really have been that news worthy. I mean, did anyone know that an ATR72 crashed in Cuba yesterday killing all on board and another aircraft went down just short of the runway in Karachi, also all dead.

Cuba isn't even news here in Holland even though there were 3 Dutchmen onboard. The main media and air disasters are always quite incompetent...

Wouldn't it be hilarious if this was the replacement jet? Grin

"Second Qantas jet returns to Singapore after engine trouble"

This probably wouldn't be in the news if it weren't for the earlier A380 engine failure, but I thought it was funny. Cheesy

It is all because every media outlet is waiting to report the first A380 crash.  There was so much speculation about what it would be like to have an aircraft with 600 people on board have an accident, long before it ever got off the drawing board.

Pet peeve of mine, when people spell Qantas with a 'u'. Title changed. Grin

As you can imagine the media are having a field day over here with these latest mishaps. I think because Qantas is Australia's national airline they are monitored very closely and any incident will make for a media frenzy. Qantas has had an extremely bad run of luck lately, the last 4 years have seen its fair share of minor incidents. These haven't helped the airlines image when media jump all over it, passengers will be avoiding Qantas for fear of an engine falling off. Just ignore the fact that Qantas is one of the worlds safest airlines, not a single crash in its 90 year history. Pretty damn good considering its the second oldest airline still in continous operation. Roll Eyes
