no its an fsx error, it wont re-install after you have unistalled it for security reasons i guess.
well i really am trying to avoid calling just because it a hassel out where i live now.

OK, Kev, But it's not an FSX error, FSX can't make this error without it's best buddy Windows. It's MS error #1722. Sorry you are unable to call MS help. I hope you get it fixed.  Wink

Have ya tried turning off your User Account Control?

If XP has such a thing?

I may not know much, but I do know that Steve is correct.  You have an OS induced error.  Hence the fact that ya can't keep the command prompt open.

Hi Kev,
Just another quick one, if you remove my lines that have the pause in, the command prompt will close anyway at the end of the instructions.

I  still don't know why it's closing on you instantly without any chnace to type in.
I'll look at the properties of my command prompt and then you can check yours.
To check yours, right click on it and select properties.

I'll login tonight, about 8 pm UK time.
My dad lives on the US east coast, yarmouth port/port yarmouth in the middle of a golf course, he used to live in santa barbara before that.

Hi kev,

this seems to a common problem with the command prompt, try typing cmd from the start/run option.

Look on google, I couldn't see any 'cure'

I wonder if there is a registry error and/or virus involved in this somehow....  Huh

How's it going people, Sean is probably right. The first thing I would do is run a complete virus scan with the best virus scanner you can use. Than after you know that your machine is clean, try this:

Like a few other posters said make sure to delet all files related to FSX, especially in these locations;
(by the way I run FSX on winXPsp3)

In your My Documents folder delete the Flight Simulator X Files

Local Disk/Documents and Settings/All Users/Applications/Microsoft/FSX

Local Disk/Documents and Settings/YOUR NAME/Applications/Microsoft/FSX

Local Disk/Documents and Settings/YOUR NAME/Local Settings/Applications/Microsoft/FSX

Now I only installed FSX for only my use and the above files got to go, but I would also check to see if there are any FSX files in;

Default User
LocalService
and of course Program Files

Than go to http://onecare.live.com/site/en-us/default.htm  and use the clean up tool.
It will clean the registry

Good luck  hope you get up and running soon!

Hi Kev,

Try booting in safe mode, I do it differently to how microsoft say do it but here is the link

http://www.microsoft.com/resources/documentation/windows/xp/all/proddocs/en-us/b...

when you get the 3 choices of how to boot, select the safe mode with command prompt.
You could  save the .bat file in the root directory of your c: drive, Easier for you to run it then.
you will have to type the full name of the file, you can call that file anything you want as long as you end it with .bat but i would keep the first part of it's name at 8 characters or less.

Hi Kev,

check your command prompt properties and post them here.
I can't think of anything else.

And just to confirm it: you don't need to be admin for it to stay open.

But you have more serious problems if it won't start in safe mode.

Good news at last then Kev.

This is one example of whats good about the simviation community and prob other sites, we all know a little bit that helps others.

My next task is get my sim online, just back on the internet at home and I've not flown any flight sim series online for about 6-8 yrs.

Regards

Steve
